Hot and Sweaty under Boett

I have had Daisy for a grand total of 5 days and she is lovely

However, under her Boett rug (sweetitch) she is sweaty and hot. This is mainly on her neck under her mane. Possibly another reason to hog?

I hate hogged manes but am beginning to think that it might be for the best with Daisy.

The other option is a new sweet itch rug that is cooler or isn't there such a thing?

Have you tried plaiting her mane? I used to have to do this to my boy and used to divide the main up into fairly chunky pretty loose plaits (not rolled up or anything just hanging down). Might be worth a go?
Or thinning it with a mane/tail rake?
If neither of the above help, then yes, I'd probably hog her.

better to be a bit sweaty than be bitten and itchy.

it`s been so hot here that my pons with nothing on are sweaty just being out in the field.

we use the the rambo sweet itch hoodie and my horse was not sweaty today!! guess it helps as well that it is a light colour so does not absorb the heat

My boy has the cheaper version of the boett (called the demeincampf or something similar) and we found he was sweating but we bought a new one (old one had a hole in it) and it was a size bigger - it even looks a bit big on him but he has not sweated at all so it may be that it is a bit tight even though it is her regular size.

A lot of these fly sheets are made from synthetic materials - try going out in Polyester on a hot day.

I have fly sheets but all my horses, right now, are stabled or have access to a field shelter. My highland with Sweet itch will stay in all day given a choice AND a fly sheet.

You could clip her? I've clipped mine through the summer sometimes if they need it - some "hot" horses are way happier clipped out.

I chnaged my Boett rug for a Rambo SI Hoody after one summer because the Boett was so hot and sweaty (amongst other drawbacks). The Rambo seems to stay much cooler, being a cotton mix, light-coloured, and looser fitting.
