Don't know if it's the 'best way', but I use a kettle full of water with a dollop of surgical spirit in it after clipping. I wait until I can soak a towel in it and hold it in my hand and then rub down all over.
Double benefit - lifts scurf out of coat and cleans any nicks........!
I've heard that you can put baby oil in the water instead to give a good shine before a winter party. I think that the key is to have the water as hot as you can bear to hold and make sure that you raise all the scurf to the surface of the coat before wiping over.
