It is coming to that time of year when my little mare just doesn’t cope well with the heat… Does anyone else have this problem? What do you think causes it? What do you do to keep them cool? She is the same whether she is in the stable for the field when its hot so keeping her in isn’t really an option.

Clip her out if she's slow to lose a hairy coat. Make sure there's adequate field shelter from the sun. Don't rug her unless of course she needs it for sweetitch or something. My horses are always stabled across the middle of the day when the summer sun is at its hottest but you could bring your mare in for longer and rig up an electric ceiling fan or similar. Does she have Cushings abd difficulty keeping her body temperature normal?

Definitely nothing medical with her vet has said she is just a hot horse... Doesn't have much of a winter coast nevermind summer coat!
She isn't overly overweight but she have been a lot leaner and fitter last summer so I will work on that and see if it makes a difference aswell as keeping her in during the day.
