Went to the horses around 5 to find Monty was sweaty in places, he is out without a rug and the temp here today was around 19c
I remember last summer he got sweaty under his mane when it was really hot so i started plaiting (sp) it out the way when it was hot but it wasn't just under his mane today.
I was wondering if it would be a good idea to clip him as i can't think of what else to do to keep him cooler?

Yup, I do! Admittedly, the horse in question now has cushings, but even before that, then I would clip her in hot weather. She's a horse who has never really felt the cold, and hated the hot, so it suits her. :)

I usually clip my cob all year round to keep her cool & to allow me to put a fly rug on her without her overheating. She has to wear a uv fly rug due to having pink skin on her white areas & there isnt another option for her.

I also havn't put a fly rug on him (even though i have wanted to, he also has some pink skin) because of him getting hot, this is the first time he has got sweaty this year but it is suppose to be getting warmer over the weekend at least so looks like he might be getting clipped.

i clip my 30yr old pony in summer, just bib, as she doesnt lose her coat so quick now, and currently its about 22 here. wouldnt havel any qualms about clipping my others in the summer if they were sweating

I'm going to clip my mare tomorrow. She is pitch black and just soaks up the sun and gets really warm to the touch even in the field. She also has a very long coat as she has a bit of cob in her. I did it last summer and she is normally quite fidgety to clip but she stood stock still, so she obviously wanted to be! I thought it would look awful but after a couple of weeks it just looked like her normal coat and went nice and shiny. I do showing at county level with her and she looks great, but I would do it a couple of weeks at least before a big show to give it time to bed in.

Mine is clipped all year round, blanket in winter, full in summer as he has to wear a fly rug. He is a TB type and copes well. His coat has now become lovely and shiny now as well.
