I do believe my horse is a naturally hot animal, shes fine built and araby looking breeding is suppose to be AQHA x Lustiano. she had never been ruggged when i bought her last year so started her with a no fill rain coat and moved up to a LW stable urg under it then eventually a half neck lightish middleweight in the worst of the snow and frost most of the time she was fine just getting sweaty on the odd milder night, ive dropped her back down to lightweight stable rug with rain cover chucked over when turned out during day i know it has dropped alot milder recently butits not that warm but she is very hot and sweaty in a morning. all other horses on yard are chuncky hairy horses all in good middleweight necked rugs and they are just warm.hot underneath not steaming and sweaty like my girl.
She seems bright energetic and very healthy to me so am pretty sure its jsut me being an over paranoid softy but just wondering if anyone thingks i should be concerned or knows why she could be so hot.
I also don't think it is her feed i changed it in October last year and she is on allan and page calm and condition with mollichaff calmer with some carrots, i dont feed her sugar or high energy feed as she is a very highly strung filly.
Any suggestions or jsut reassurance i have an oddly natural hot horse lol would be greatly appreciated

Thanks :-)

Some horses are just hot. She sounds like she is one of these. Is that the reason she was never rugged before? I have to say this last week i have taken one rug off my boy and he is still warm to touch.
If i was you i would try her in the stable with nothing on and see how she is in the morning or if you dont want to go to nothing try with just a summer sheet or her rain sheet left on? Then you will know if it is just temperature affecting her. I am presuming she isnt clipped only being a filly, so unless it goes freezing cold again i would be tempted to go oh natural at least when indoors!!

I have an oldie who is very warm. She is 31 and has, so far, only had a medium weight rug on, eve living out in the snow. Over the last few days she is now only having a fleece on at night when in (she has only recently requested a stable at night!), and a very lightly filled turnout in the day with no neck. She gets herself in a real flap if she gets too hot so have to be really careful. I wouldn't worry, they are all different!

I wouldnt rug her at nights { she is stabled i gather} if you know its going to be a dry day i wouldnt rug her as well, only on cold wet days, horses dont feel dry cold {frosty days} like we do.

If she's sweaaty then she's too hot, so down rug, if she's happy in a no fill t/o then just leave her in that, not all horses need ruggin up to the eye-balls :)

Thansk for the reassurance guys, she is stabled at night and out allday, i put her in just a thin fleece alst night and she is better today so have turned her out with just her no fill shower sheet to keep any wind and rian off. i just didnt like going from middleweight to nothing. Am use to my fat and furries never needing a rug but shes not a thick haired horse and is very daintly built.
She wasn't rugged before i bought her as owner of her mum wasn't expecting madam and when her dam turned out to be no good in her eyes she just left the pair of them wild on the welsh hills till she lost her land and sol them all off and i got my girl barely handled and quite wild. I am a softie i like them to at least have a packa mac on lol can't stand them stood all day in the wet when its cold and thats obvisouly all my little weirdo needs lol she cna go back to jsut a summer sheet in the stall i would leave her naked in if it weren't for the fact shes grey and poos for England!! onyl in winter though lol can leave her out 24x7 in summer and she comes in spotless!
