Just doing some research for a writing project and wondering how many people object to the smell of hot shoeing? Do horsey folk like the smell, or no? I've always had horses hot shod and I like the smell, but no idea if others find it offensive!

Hmm I don't mind it, wouldn't say I like it though. Especially since working as a scrub nurse in theatres whilst doing my training. On my first day they warned me about the smell of burning flesh being cauterised, saying it often makes people faint or feel sick. I circulated for a knee replacement and when they started the diathermy, I got a pat on the shoulder and a concerned "are you alright? Do you feel ok? The smell takes some getting used to"... Lol
No need to say it smelled exactly like hot shoeing :p
So no, I don't enjoy it, but I don't really dislike it either :D

As a member of the Barefoot Taliban I am ashamed to say I love the smell

Another member of the barefoot taliban here and I used to be OK with the smell until I moved in with my BF,a farrier. The smell gets in everything, clothes, boots, chaps, van, dog and it also gets mixed with the smell of rotting hoof from the old/removed shoes.....(Try the cheese called Stinking Bishop and you will know the smell I am talking about)
Thankfully BF,who has favoured barefoot for 20 odd years, now specialises in natural hoofcare and rarely does any shoeing so I don't have to endure that smell anymore.:)

Not had mine shod for years, but I love the smell. Not sure its cos its necessarily lovely, but its a familiar one that reminds me of being a child!
