Does anyone else have a horse who suffers with the hot weather. One of mine is fine, not really any different whatever the weather, the other one really seems to suffer,he gets very hot very quickly and his energy levels drop. He's currently on Revive and i try to work him early before it gets too hot, he doesn't do anything wrong and bless him he still perks up at a show but i feel so sorry for him as he obviously hates the heat.

Having said that i'm not great in this weather, i guess horses are like us, some cope better than others.

Two of mine like it (the TB types). My Shire x Tb doesn't cope so well, and can't wear fly rugs as gets too hot.
There's not much you can do, except provide shade, water, and electrolytes, I suppose, unless you're good with rain dances.

Star gets a little bit lazier, but otherwise it doesn't seem to bother him really. Apart from the thousands of horse flies that it brings with it

my Ron is a warm horse all year round, lives in a MW rug in all but the coldest winter weather, even when he's fully clipped! but in the summer he suffers a bit and when i got him in the morning (about 11.30am) he was standing under the trees sweating and feeling miserable.

Tom, however is a fairy and is cold even in the rambo supreme with two fleeces under it in the winter. and this morning while ron was sweating, he was still bouncing round the field and full of the joys!

some definitely cope better than others just like people.

Ron really enjoyed his cold shower and fell asleep while he had a bath!! and for once he didn't get cross with me pulling his mane of trimming his feathers!

My lad struggles in the heat and has zero energy out riding...even at 5.30am! He spends most of the day stood in his field stable away from it dozing and getting hot and sweaty. He is a well built Welsh Cob with lot's of muscle so retains the heat, which does not help...neither does being black!

My horse hates the heat and his summer coat is the length of some horses' winter coats, due to him being half clydey half highland. He just wants to sleep and be left alone. He sweats and gets very itchy.

He is frequently seen standing in the stream or muddy places in the field trying to cool off.

i was thinking about that earlier today - and as i don't do any showing i guess it wouldn't matter if i did clip him out. Ron's coat isn't that long but there's lots of it it's like a dense sponge! takes ages for the hose to get thru it all!

My boy suffers from this heat. . .so have decided to clip him out. . .

Not sure he will be to happy about the idea of clippers

My lad loves the heat, he is still full of bounce when everything else is wilting, but he is bred for hotter conditions, and is a bit difficult to keep weight on when it's cold - he growns no winter coat and feels it. Just have to keep an eye out for sunburn on white blaze and heels.

The 3 trakehner mares seem fine, did a pleasure ride on the very green one today, we took it very easy and walked all but one small stretch in the cool shade of woods, and she arrived back with sweat under her tack and between her back legs only, was quite full of going when we finished too - I was wilting in the heat shimmer.

Mine has been clipped and he now very happy, out 24/7 with no rug on. Plus I don't feel guilty for making him work anymore

Clipped in time for my first intro in 2 years

Don't know where he gets such a horrid coat from, but he really suffers with the heat.

My boy hates the heat, he's a warmblood and is generally quite warm, never seen him shiver! He takes himself into his stable most of the day at the minute and is drinking loads of water. If I ride him in this heat he sweats up instantly and gets quite stressy about it, poor boy.
