Sorry, I've been mega busy over the weekend - had to come into the office in MK today for a rest!
Ross (aka The Comedy Horse) did a nice little test, jumped clear (a la Geoff Luckett, sitting and waiting, making him jump up from my leg, not forward etc etc), then took off with me trotting up for the conformation judge! Austin was a bit tense in his test, then green jumping and had two down, but got so much better as he went round, and had to be chased to trot up, lazy beggar. The arena had masses of fences in as they'd had the Grand Prix the night before, so a lot of the horses were spooky and some quite nappy, but the Comedy Horse wasn't bothered and I think little Austin was so shell-shocked he didn't even think to spook!
Anyway, both got into the top ten, Ross on 72 and Austin on 71 and went and did their best gallops to show off to the judge. I hadn't realised they'd changed the rules so only the top 5 get extra marks added according to where they've been pulled in (5 through to 1), so I ended up 6th on Ross and 8th on Austin. Not bad for a first effort eh
particularly when Ross is SO not the type for that class and Austin was only backed 6 months ago so is quite green (albeit more the right type). I had to rename Ross The Comedy Horse because they called the first 6 of us in to get rosettes and it was comical, the first five were so similar in stamp and type and colour even, and then there was me on the shiny bright bay humungahorse......bless him.
Laura Collett won it on Dumbleton which was 5th in the PAVO champs and is already doing novice......
V good result for your BYEH there. Would be interested to know who won the 4yo too....also who won it at Hambleton on Sunday.......why don't they put up the results somewhere so annoying!!!
My 4yo has her first one this weekend, she's thinks she's it at the moment so needs to c a l m down!!!
5yo's always so competitive the one we had at Burghley as a 5yo last year won his first qualifier and then by the time he got to the finals had 11 BE points (not that that helped he was a sh*t on the day!!) He'd been 4th at the finals the year before and 4th at PAVO. So makes your results even better!!
i've been told i'm not allowed to ride millie until she's a) qualified so it doesn't matter or b ) showed us she never will qualify so i can't do much harm!!!
BBs - You really should enter some, they'd love his jumping style and that's what the most marks are for. Milton Keynes BYEH is 23 June, it's pretty local for you so no excuses, I shall expect to see you there
(I won 20 squids ie. entry fee back, so better than a poke in the eye with a short stick).
SW123 - Was just going to say the results are on Burghley-Horse.co.uk. I wish I had a 4 yr old for this year, I love doing the classes and it's good mileage for them, particularly as some venues are quite busy and "atmospheric"!
I know what you mean about the 5ys's being competitive but I'm not really taking it seriously on my boy because he's not the right type, whereas Austin's owner desperately wants him to qualify as he's for sale. I'll do a couple of PAVO classes as at least the results are based on performance not opinion
. (Oooh, did I sound bitchy there, so sorry about that!)
Hambleton was last weekend so they gave that a busy week didn't they!!! We had my 3yo there - who came home with some nice rosettes (even if i don't agree wtih showing!!!)
I agree for the £20 entry fee its fantastic mileage for them.
I sat in on the BYEH class at MKEC a few years ago when Roland F was the judge. Its brilliant experience for £20!
HAHA thats the only reason i wanna go, The Browns will be there with all the baby horses in force...
Entries close on 6 June I think, entry forms are on the website and yes I am going (with both I think), so you really do have to go or I'll never let you hear the end of it (unless you have a note from your mum/vet/doctor
Yep, great mileage and good to have on their CV if they do well and you want to sell them. It really is a shop window isn't it?
I thought the 4yo's were better behaved than the 5yo's at Burghley last year - but then the 4yo's are normally still a bit naive and the 5yo's think they know it all, bless them (as BBs and I know too well!)

Yay, BBs dips her toes into the world of BYEH where we pay someone 20 squids to tell us whether they like our horse or not
Only kidding, it's good fun, I had a ball on Friday, and Ross particularly like the galloping bit.
It depends where you go whether the showjumping is up to height. Maybe the last two fences at Houghton were 1.05m but the rest weren't. Anyway, it'll be good practice for the PN you'll be entering soon won't it....
