"Gait/Movement
Should possess great freedom of action. In profile should move with a long, easy stride whist holding topline. The forelegs should be thrown forward and low over the ground. Hind legs should come well under the body giving greater propelling power. General movement not to look stilted, high stepping, short or mincing. True coming and going."
THAT'S how a whippet should move. Taken from the breed standard- not like a blinking toy poodle or an IG- I quite agree Acolyte, adn it didn't move any better in the flesh so to speak. NOT impressed.
Ah thank you Llanali I should have looked for that - I know what I mean, but am rubbish at trying to say it
I used to show my whippets in my mad youth, my younger one was by Ballagan Whipcord who was a proper coursing dog too - hence she had excellent confirmation and could move well
She won one class (Graduate).... but came SECOND in the other (Limit)
Cue lots of 'you was robbed' comments from all her cronies around the ring
Seriously, she was robbed, the judge was never going to give her both classes but he made the WRONG ONE win its class (well that is IMHO, I like her bitch who was second better
)
Her friend won Best Puppy with her little bitch who (I think) has Mum's breeding in it too, so she was very pleased
Mine were crap LOL Actually, no both showed their socks off, but judge didn't like feathered, or smaller dogs. All her top placings were rangy foreign dogs. NOT that anyone can critisise begcause it was 'THE' Zean Thorn Andrews.....*sigh*
I've got friend who show whippets, but have moved more to IGs now, because whippets are just so bitchy. The people, that is, not the hounds LOL Plus- am I the only person who thinks some whippets these day could be runty greyhounds?? My god, they're HUGE!
Bah Zena Thorn Andrews was judging when I was a kid.....these big all rounders are great, but they go for the flashy foreign/big winning jobs all the time rather than a solid excellent example of the breed, regardless of what they are judging
I cant agree with you more about whippets now, they are massive arent they
I have two tiny greyhounds (tattoed etc so they are genuine
) who everyone thinks are whippets instead - it horrifies me
Whatever happened to the breed standard height
LOL about whippets being bitchy mind you, CKCS are AWFUL
I think most breeds are bitchy tbh. Totally agree about whippets, my Dad used to have a btich who was oversize, she would look small today. Not a fan of all rounders (I have GSDs after all!) because I do not believe you can be expert in so many breeds. Mind you, we were watching my daughters friends Springer in the ring and I picked the class winner
Friends Springer wasn't placed, but she was the only black/white in the class so maybe the judge was colour prejudiced. The springer tails were really interesting, some had full plumage and others had been trimmed off, apparently exhibitors don't quite know what to do with them
