We have just had minkhound babies in kennels - Lollipop, Lupin & Ladle
The photo is stuck on my phone, but will try and get some in the next few weeks.

Once again Zigzag shows just how little he actually knows about hounds and life in kennels...

Essentially you undertake to educate two or more hound pups - ideally you will need to have the space to house them and exercise them. While at walk they will learn to respond to their names, be taught basic discipline and shown sights and sounds of countryside, they will also be discouraged from chasing livestock, rabbits, hares and so forth. Towards the end of their stay some walkers will also work on skills needed in the puppy show - encouraging them to stand well, look up for biscuits to show off their top line and so on.

The job is usually given to known hunt followers, but it is worth having a chat with your huntsman or master to see if any more walkers are required. Sometimes they will be wracking their brains for someone who can take the last couple on.

I hope you're not suggesting that hunts never shoot young hounds because they're useless at hunting, combat_claire. If you are, you'll be in great danger of joining the Bradshaw Porky Pie Club...

It is a very last solution - very often they will be drafted unless their habits are completely incurable such as sheep worrying. We drafted two minkhounds who were struggling in our country to a pack where the rivers have more solid bottoms, we have taken on many drafts from foxhound and harrier packs.

Funnily enough hounds hunt naturally and problems tend to stem from not being able to grasp what they should and should not be flushing. Hounds learn this from the day they rejoin the pack, they will be rated for not staying with the pack on exercise and when they do return there will be much growling as the older hounds let their feelings be known.

Putting a hound down is the absolute resort in terms of lameness or unsuitably, you make it sound like a daily occurrence, that is the real fib in this posting.

I resent that comment, which like the rest of your postings has no factual basis whatsoever.

You only have to see the hounds when their staff go into kennels to see just how the hounds adore them and how they are loved in return. When the time comes to put an old hound down, then the huntsman is genuinely cut up about it.

The hounds always remember the family that walked them, and seasons later they will seek out their walker at a meet or event for a cuddle before returning to the pack.

I adore every single one of my minkhounds, each has their own personality and over the seasons I have got to know them, some like a lot of fuss, others are content to keep themselves to themselves, but without exception every hound is loved whether he excels in the show ring or out in the field.

this is what i hate how a happy lighthearted post about new puppies and wanting updates and pics has now been interfered with by antis, when this post was not designed to cause offence or debate simply curiosity and friendly conversation

unnecessary to be fair

these anti morons haven't the faintest clue of what they are talking about, they are just wind-up merchants out to upset and put down anyone who tries to have a sensible debate/ discussion- this puppy thread as you say is a lighthearted one, but no, they have to try and wreck it, yet again, with their totally unfounded ignorance! as CC says, huntsmen, kennelmen, masters etc. all adore their hounds, they wouldn't work as they do otherwise!(i am speaking with first hand knowledge-)

I'm an anti, but I'm sure huntsman do adore their hounds. However, if a hound - and this can be a young hound - is no good at hunting, they are shot. I don't see how I am "fibbing" by stating this.

Have you ever had much to do with hounds?

Please resist the temptation to troll, Giles. I'm pointing out that, cute as hound puppies are, they are working dogs and, as such, they'll lose their life if they can't work adequately.

I'm not trolling, just curious. You've made the poin t about shooting.

I was wondering if you had any experience with hounds.

Absolutely none. As you know, I would never go hunting or have anything to do with it.

But I still know more about hunting than you.

You're so uninterested in what I have to say that you take the time and effort to reply to one of my posts...

If you don't like my contributions it's easy enough to put me on "ignore". Good luck!
