House sitting/swopsy?

We had a very near miss with some extremely dodgy people c/o Trusted Housesitters - and then an extremely positive one (we’d paid a lot of money to the site and were going to be away for 4 weeks so had to persist!).

Suffice to say, do your homework with the people you shortlist and follow up references. And listen to your gut.

One of my friends would house sit if local to her as she works full time and she does have 2 dogs of her own, she also rides and is knowledgeable with horses so can look after horses as well and I trust her totally but she would want to be paid as she doesn't have an alternative for someone to swap with really.

I've yet to use a house sitter as I toyed with the idea a few years back.Friends can look after the horses as they live out but the dog can be a problem to take everywhere.
I invited a woman I knew who regularly animal sat in the UK to come over and have a short break with us here in France. She was unaware that I might have asked her to house sit at a later date but she turned out to be a total nightmare, so no way!
As our guest we met her at the airport where she immediately started making eyes at my OH, he was not impressed!
She spoke no French but refused to turn her phone on or carry one of ours if she went out on ĥer own.
And most importantly she was intent on letting the dog off his lead when he was being walked especially along the canal towpath (accessed from the bottom of the garden) which is unfenced for many miles in all directions. I could go on...
