Millie is now nearly 14 weeks old and we have had her for 6 nearly six of those weeks....

she doesnt seem to be getting the housetraining rules at all

She is fine all night as she is in a crate..... and during the day, when she is in her pen she is fine...... But, if she has the run of downstairs, she is very unreliable.

Is it just something that will come with time....

Am I doing something wrong......

Is there anything else I can do???

I havent punished her for weeing indoors as I was told this is not really the thing to do.... but how else will she learn that its not right?

Please help me out with your best housetraining advice, and your best tips for getting wee out of the underlay!!!

Every half an hour when she has free run take her out, BIG praise when she does right!
If you catch her doing it in the house a stern NO then straight outside then BIG praise for continuing outside! this is ok "punishment" but no smackin or rubbin noses in it etc as this does little!!

Wee out of underlay, vanish foam works well as soaks in and you leave for a period of time and then hoover out. Febreeze works through smells well as well!

If you are taking her out regularly/every time she starts to go/wakes up/eats/drinks and keeping a constant eye on her, then it will just take time.

Otto was 5 months when we got him and had no concept of housetraining. He is now 10 months and I would say it is only in the last month that I can say he is completely housetrained.

I also think it takes slightly longer with bitches, as they have no desire to mark their territory outside (I could be wrong, I have no clue when it comes to lady dogs!

Thanks guys

so it is just a matter of time then..... I cant remember how long Zak took to be clean, but I know that he had lots of submission accidents rather than lazy accidents.

I am doing all the regular outside trips and the praising up etc, so sounds like I am not going far wrong.

Maybe it will click soon

Any more tips would be great

Don't give her free unsupervised rein of the down stairs, this way you cannot pick her up and remove her to designated pooh area (garden)

only allow her in the room u are in, and if you cannot supervise and u want to let her run around, try baby gating the kitchen and leaving back door open, if not put her in crate when u cannot watch her.

Mostly what we are doing..... sadly, I seem to be the only one who can do what I am doing AND watch the pup

Everyone else seems to lose track of where she is and what she is up to.

I have said she must stay in the kitchen now as am bored of finding puddles

Actually, truth be told, she has not had that many accidents altogether..... Its more that she doesnt seem to realise that outside is for weeing.... and doesnt ask to go out yet.

Zak had a dog door at this age, so suppose it might have been easier with him.

Thanks for the posts
