Me and the little coloured beastie headed west today for a lesson with David Gatherer over the old BE course. He is pretty unflappable XC now but wanted to get in some ditch practice to be safe! Lets just say I wasnt disappointed :)

Started off warming up over a little log, alternating between a forward stride and a closed one, and approaching on angles.

Then strung together a few fences. Log to skinny to palisade into the woods with a large-ish drop to finish.

Going well and did a few exercises on turns and control, then off to jump some ditches with a simple open ditch to start :D

Quick detour via the water (log drop in)

Then more ditches!!!! Horsey decided you still had to go up the way first

Since he went so well decided to do the even bigger one (meep!)
Having a look on the last stride

But no loss of forward momentum and popped over

And continued straight on and up the steps

Little leap into space was next

And a drop to finish

Strung together a little course of 8 PN fences, including a couple we hadnt done before, and he popped round like a pro. Davids comment as we came over the final fence was 'too easy'! :D

So pleased with my little horse. He didnt put a foot wrong all day, really jumped well and made it all feel easy peasy :) Even the big ditches he looked but still went, not one 'no thank you' moment in sight - hurrah!!!! I didnt realise quite how large the steps were, and on a bounce stride, but he took it all in his stride and felt really confident throughout. I managed to stay straight and the words 'look up' were only uttered once in 1.5hours! Thats a new record!
Next outing is Oatridge PN, its going to be great! :D

Looks like you had a good day! Did they used to do BE at Houston? Im sure i did my first PC eventing team round that course years ago, it was lovely!

Yup, think it last ran in 2006. It was my first ever BE many years ago on my other horse! :D
This boy is going to be fab I think :) Its taken a while for him to mature and gain confidence (he's 8 now!) but I think once he's got it there will be no stopping him :D

I thought so, i remember the tyre jumps in the shape of the lochness!! Your boy is lovely, im a sucker for a coloured!

Well done, he is looking fab. :) Those ditches are pretty big and scary looking, well done you! I see it wasn't just J checking out that big 'un...! :p So pleased you had a good lesson and I reckon you're right, he's a superstar in the making. See you at Blair 2011! :D

Figjam: I might make it to spectate :) Have to say I didnt think the bigger one was that big til I was right at it, and then I had no choice but to go over! So we seem to have cracked ditches, hopefully trakeners will follow!!!!

Wow, you guys were really flying! Looks like you had lots of fun. When we walked the course on Saturday we saw some of the big fences and my husband was f-ing and blinding saying only lunatics would jump anything like that!

Well done!

No chance of a hug. A confined DA is not huggable. He will however bite wellies & steal hats.

I really hope he's not too broken but speaking as someone with a horse on box rest just now (4 weeks and counting) I had to laugh at the "no chance of a hug!" Mine look totally insane fangs all over the place, hasn't actually made a dent on me yet but jackets, hats, wellies the stable have all had a good biting!!

Thanks guys. He has really started to come into his own now, Im so pleased with him. Definately worth all the things he threw at me as a youngster when I see how he's turned out :D

Daviesmycat: I have been called that many times :D Mostly by my OH who describes XC as 'throwing half a ton of horse at half a ton of timber at 20mph'! Each to their own I guess :D

Hello! Small world indeed! :) Hows he doing? Hope the little bang on his nose was superficial. Have you made up your mind about Oatridge yet? We have rain if it help :)

He's fine, I'm loving the piccies, feeling pleased I managed them all too as some are very chunky :)

Not going to do Oatridge, cause I'm on a ticket its £87 to enter and I'm on hols the week after so just going to do unaff 90cm PC one instead :)

Eeek! Does make it pricey! I guess I just forget about the membership fee once its been paid :) We have Hopetoun and Strathallen after Oatridge so will maybe catch up with you at one of those :D
