Dear diary
Well what a week! This week marked a serious milestone in mum and I’s life together – this week after 3 years we finally went stubble racing together!
I’ve been stubble racing loads with Dad and Aunty Sarah but mum has never taken me. Shes often said how much she wanted to but shes never been brave enough – I don’t know why? I am big and brave and am not naughty so I’m not sure what she has been scared of? Maybe she is allergic to stubble?
Anyway on Sunday we saddled up to go out for a hack with Billys and Billys mum, as we walked off the yard Billys mum asked my mum where she fancied going and mum replied “ somewhere with stubble fields so we can have a run”!!!!! I was so surprised I nearly fell over and kissed Billys bottom (which is totally unmanly so I managed to regain my footing pretty quick).
Anyway off we toddled and found a big field which belongs to boss lady Sarah. Mum made me trot across the first bit which I did very nicely because I knew what was coming next! Then mum asked me for canter and we were off!! Mum and Billys mum had spent lots of time making plans for if I got silly and what to do etc but hadn’t made plans for the fact I am turbo charged (and in fairness Billys junior by nearly a factor of 3!!). We went off and left Billy in our wake! Yeehaa!! I could hear mum yelling yeehaa in my ear so I went even faster. She wasn’t asking me to go as fast as Dad usually asks but we were motoring! The one thing that made me sad was that Fit mare was not next to me. She was the only one who has ever been able to keep up and was always my stubble racing partner. I swear I could sense her with me though, those long black legs of hers matching me stride for stride. It was as if she was by my shoulder as we charged across the field. At the end mum pulled me up and then flung her arms round my neck yelling with happiness. It was fab! We then waited for Billy to catch up and then pootled through the village where I surprised a man by putting my head through his car window when he stopped to admire us. Well he said I was handsome so I thought he might like a closer look? Mum luckily was in such a good mood she found it funny. We then walked and trotted across another two stubble fields although I did fancy another run. The only blot on my impeccable copy book was as we neared home two horses appeared in front of us and started trotting away from us. I fancied going and having a chin wag with them and mum and I did have a little disagreement over this. In the end we went a different way home with mother reminding me in her stern tone that she was the boss. Yeah right – whatever makes you feel better mum!
Last night I had another one of those talks from her as I tried to join in a fight that was going on whilst she was leading me to the stables. Apparently behaving like a Spanish riding school horse is not acceptable behaviour when mum is on the other end of the leadrope and so 30 minutes of reminding me of my manners in the school swiftly followed. Needless to say this morning I walked out like a lamb – that leadrope stings!
Tonight mum tells me I am going to a clinic. I’m not sure why as I am not ill but she did mention Evil army man is going to be there - I’m hoping this means jumping but I’m not sure how we jump in a clinic? Is it like hospital bed hurdles or something? Would someone please explain?

PS Mum is going away for a few weeks so there will be no diaries until she gets back. She’s said boss lady Sarah can ride me whilst she’s away so I may have much to tell you!!

well Hovis, sounds like all your prayers have come true - I'm so glad you've persuaded your mum to take you stubble racing! My mum likes to take me too, but there isn't very much around here, and I get carried away and mum can't steer!

Carrots, Ron

Hovis, I am hoping that you somehow manage to make it to a computer whilst your mum is away... I like to read your diary entries to my little boy...I'm not sure that he understands, but he always laughs his head off!

x

Can't wait for the catch up, i will miss you while she is off!
