I took fronts off my connemara at the start of lockdown so around mid March time. She’s had a few trims since I think with my farrier who did her when she had shoes.

This is her front right, didn’t have time to get all four but was just interested to see what people far more knowledgeable than me think? Sorry also a bit dark now I look at the photos properly but i was avoiding the sunshine!

I think I can see a better angle growing down from the coronet? She’s a tiny bit footy on fine stoney paths but we only have a tiny bit of that on our hacks. She’s also much better coming back which makes me think it’s napping. Other than that she is good to walk trot canter, we’ve gone xc barefoot a few times and sj on grass. Also done a bit of roadwork. Her feet were last trimmed about 3 weeks ago. I think the event lines are where she’s swapped fields. They’re even width the whole way round her hoof.

She’s on a meagre handful of honeychop and some pony nuts with a general vit&min, mag ox, cupra (for a few more days) and agnus castus. At the moment I soak her hooves every few days when it’s very dry and the farrier did put some Artimud in her grooves when he was here last as said they were looking a bit gross from standing in her wee ?.

Any tips/improvements/things to mention at next trimming are much appreciated!

They are growing in at a good angle. You should be pleased with these. You might find the feet get stronger more quickly if you boot in front and increase the mileage on the roads continuing bare in arenas and fields.

Excellent! I am really pleased tbh but was worried my inexperienced eye was clouding my judgement ?. She’s probably doing about 30 mins a week at the moment on tarmac (mix of walk and trot) but I can increase this if you think that would help. Then the rest of the time is spent hacking on grass, paths and schooling in an arena.

If you have the time , the more time you spend walking on smooth tarmac the better, so long as you aren't getting problems, Work, so long as they are comfortable, is key to strong feet.

The heels are contracted (i.e. pinching the frog), particularly the left side (as we're looking at it here). There's also a bit of an imbalance - she seems to be growing more foot on (our) left than the right. Which isn't a bad thing necessarily - that might be what she needs. Her toes are also a little long and she could do with a bit more depth to the heel/frog. The frog looks a bit thrushy - if you can sort that out and get the central sulcus a bit more shallow and wide that would be ideal.

Thank you! I knew her heels didn’t look quite right but didn’t know exactly what! Yes I have ordered some artimud and have been spraying with their sole cleanse too.

That looks excellent progress :) is she happy on all surfaces?
.

Thank you! I’m really happy she’s taken to it so well!

Yep she is fine in the school, fine out in the hacking fields and fine on tarmac. I let her pick her way up the slightly stony track to the hacking fields and she does favour the grass verges but then coming back will march down the stones so I dont know if her meandering weaving is more of a napping tactic.

Clip of us going xc barefoot!
