Hi all,

As title really how are they looking?
Just realised I didn't get any without the tape measure 🤦‍♀️🙈 but hoping can still get some ideas.

He's had his shoes off since around October time

If she is sound I find the best things for bare hooves is daily walking on smooth tarmac. Building up the distance slowly.

I’ll preface this with ‘I am not an expert’.

But I’d be quite pleased with the angles, over winter. When you aren’t getting a lot of horn growth to work with, I’d take the small wins.

I agree with IrishMilo that the frog needs work but that will come.

This is one of mine’s fronts, not perfect or course, but her frog is really open and every time she hits the ground you can imagine the shock absorbing and circulation pumping that it provides.

When spring finally gets going, you’ll have much more growth and with lots of walking, you’d have a completely different foot.

What does he think of them?

Is he sound? Capable on various surfaces or less on some? Heel first landing at least in front?

Thank you all.
Yes he is sound and going ok, very happy in yhe scool, happy on tarmac/concrete ( we have a very long concrete drive) but sore if he catches a stone.
Not happy on the stoney forestry tracks.

I do currently have boots and he was grand in then in the forestry.
But slightly reluctant to put these on atm as had farrier Friday and he's said heels are rubbed nearly raw 🙈. I'm feeling quite bad as I haven't noticed and even looking after the farrier I can't see it 😣. I washed there when he was trimmed so couldn't be shown.

The above images are the day after trimming.

Thank you all

Is he fully behind you going barefoot? There's nothing on your photos to suggest unacceptable levels of rubbing.

The rest sounds really promising, keep up the good work!

I'm not really sureif he is, from the photos can you see any areas that have been rubbed?

I've been interested in taking him barefoot for a while and finally took the jump this winter as new wouldn't end up riding alot, with the possibility of shoeing again in spring if needed, but his walk is so much better with out shoes.
I've always said he has a shuffle of a walk but it so much improved now he's not shod

This looks like a typical bit where the boot has pressed and compressed the frog into the tough leathery thing it should eventually all end up as. It's the only bit I can see that suggests the boots are pressing anywhere, but it's what you want to happen. There is no "rubbed nearly raw" visible on those photos, which is why I asked whether your farrier is really in support of what you are doing.
