How are you coping?

touch wood, ponies are doing ok!
its another story driving up and down ungritted roads to get to yard and then to the field!
all water pipes are frozen so filling water barrels at house then driving to yard!
hay is adlib and that is been carted via car! but will be getting a couple of big bales in next day or so in case we cant get there and landlord will check water etc if weather is too bad.
but at moment 3 hairy ponies are out 24/7 on adlib hay and a feed on an evening with some chaff, speedibeet and cool mix. Stables are there if needed but to be honest I think the 3 of them would go potty if I told them they were coming in!
bit of a strain carting hay and water around but all worth it when one of them snots on you or stands on your cold toes? dont you think??:D:rolleyes:;)

We have nearly 2ft in Kent now. We times the new purchase of an old fourtrak van last week perfectly so can still get around. Pony is going out for an hour twice a day and is coping ok.

My other horse is at the vets with a fractured leg (which he did 2 weeks ago) - and haven't been able to get there to visit him since Sunday which is the only thing I'm worried about. He is absolutely fine - and they are wonderful, I just like to see him every day to give him a goodnight kiss! :( Going to attempt to get there today.

As I said in my previous post it could be worse and your story with your boy with a fractured leg is a prime example. There's me worrying about not riding and other people are worried about their horses for other reasons. I wish your horse a speedy recovery and hope he is better soon x :)

Coping fine.

Horse are only 200m away from the house so I could walk if needed, although I am using the Disco to carry water down as my container has frozen into a humungous ice cube.
Theres a good foot or so of snow here, but its drifting higher in front of stable doors and gateways which is a struggle.

Horses are going out as usual- with hay and rugs.

I bent a hoofpick last night getting ice out of the one with front shoes:eek:- the unshod ones are fine.

Prefer this to mud actually- but I have a feeling I'm gonna be waterlogged once it starts melting:eek:

We have only had snow for a couple of days here, and only last night did it get really bad. Horses have been able to go out as normal with hay in the field, but today i they will stay in as it is too dangerous on the lane up to the field. I had been driving to the yard but it is really bad today so i will walk, with my 7 year old daughter to the yard which will take about an hour each way in these conditions i guess!
water pipes have been fine, just boiling a kettle and pouring over the tap works fine and have been breaking ice in the troughs so all ok so far! who knows how long this will last, yesterday BBC weather forecast for the weekend said temps would increase up to 8 degrees, today they show 1 degree ?!

Daughter managed to ride Monday, but on Tuesday came the snow, and we have a least 8" of snow here, and it is still coming down, so seems a good time to give the boy a short holiday as there are no competitions coming up for a while. All three horses are going out in the field for at least half a day with hay in the field.

Thankfully the horses are at home which makes life much easier, although we have no mains water on the yard so have to cart some down from the house as can't use a hose as we normally do. The worst bit is going to be when all this snow melts and we are left with a sludgy, slush mess underneath.

I'm coping well,

We've not had to much snow, but our main problem is the ice. Getting to the yard has been ok.
Havent ridden since Monday night. They have been out for a few hours everyday, today is there 1st day in as the walk to the field is to icy and dangerous. Mine loves being in the field till yesterday decided he wanted to come in and had a hissy fit.
I think my boy is to fit as a few days off and hes turned in to a looney, cant keep his feet on the floor, so hoping its not going to last to long. He normally loves a holiday. All horse are happy in and hoping to get them out when we can.

Checking my youngster more atm, Hes out, has trees as shelter as shelter needs to go up but need the ground softer. But they seem fine, ad-lib hay and water. No rugs as seems plenty warm enough but got one ready if he needs it.

Well I'm now out of hay! too much snow to get a delivery in so am using small baled haylage - enough left to last until in the morning and used all my chaff and feed so attempting to get to the feed merchants today with a friend in a 4x4; Wish me luck!

Good luck Touchstone, hope you get your hay - that's my worst nightmare. Our yard nearly ran out last year and couldn't get any deliveries - luckily a supplier came through at the last minute.

Will have to walk the 1 hour to the yard today, luckily the YO does the morning TO and hays the fields. So, although I am miserable 'cos I a missing the riding - I am well off compared to alot of others.

Really feeling for those who are worse off. :(

no turn out- as have to go down a steep hill, but ponies are fine, and cloud who is out 24/7 is totally fine too - just glad i put her heavyweight on before i cant get to her! hopefully it will thaw enough for me to get down soon. but matrix is on part livery and not ridden, and cloud is being checked everyday so im not too worried

Coping fine here, although taking millions of milk cartons of water up there, because all the water pipes are frozen, despite the fact they've all got insulated stuff around them!!! Our water carriers got a hole in, and they're all sold out in the local stores :(
