How are your dressage horses bred?

As the title really. Not necessarily the actual bloodlines, but more the type....
I'm asking as I am thinking of getting something else that will be more suited to my chosen discipline!

Although not a "proper" dressage horse and although I haven't actually agreed to take her on yet, I'm going to view a purebred Lipizzaner mare this week, with a view to dressaging her. I can't wait to see how she's bred, I think it's fascinating.

We had a good dressage horse that was by Carnaval Drum and out of a tb. He evented to intermediate but was a bit of a wimp so we registered him with BD and he won novice, elementary and medium very rapidly and was advanced medium within 4 months.
Our eventers are a mixed bunch- we've generally had pure tbs in the past but have also had a pure trakhener, a conniextb and Moon who is a separate breed all of her own (trakxtbxnf with a pinch of donkey in there somewhere)

My dressage horse wasn't bought to do dressage, however that's what I now mainly do with him.
He's an Irish sports horse. By an Irish draught stallion out of a TB mare.

Mine are Warmbloods or Warmblood x TB.
My retired boy is Dutch x TB, Rhiannon is British bred Hannoverian, Henry is Danish but by a TB stallion approved by the Danish Studbook, Spider is Dutch x Danish and Bunty is Dutch x 3/4 TB.

My 'dressage' horse is a Westphalian (German WB) - he has Delphi as his sire and Remus in his blood lines.

Depending on what you are looking for and how much you have to spend - try Gary Williams. He is based just outside Colchester and he imports German dressage horses. They all have beautiful paces and that 'look at me' factor.

I like WBxTB, I think it's quite a good combination and have seen one that I quite like...
Nats_uk, yeah thanks for that, I know a few people that have bought horses from Gary.

Winston is IDxTB and has done VERY well at Affiliated Novice level. He is unbeaten at Unaffiliated Elementary and is always in the top 3 after dressage eventing.

Snoopy is Dutch Warmblood (KWPN) His father is a GP KWPN his mother Trakenher.

Diva came from Garry Williams and we are thrilled with her.
Hils is TB X Han
Blitz is german warmblood and so is Diva.
Maddie is Selle Francais x TB
OH's trainer has an iberian horse which won a GP at Hicksted. He has incredible piaffe and passage which Boss will verify. You don't need a warmblood to do dressage!

Thoroughbred. He is by Java Tiger out of an irish thoroughbred mare by Santa's Sleight. So he is really bred to event, which he does as well. He is called Paper Tiger and was 3rd in the Medium Open at the Nationals this year, ridden by Ruth Edge. It is very satisfying that as a thoroughbred he holds his own against the top warmbloods in the country

I only compete prelim now and then - horse has scope to go a lot further with someone more talented than me on him to ride him and train him. Had some very knowledgeable "horsey" people watching me ride him, and the comments are always "what a nice horse he is", and "he has very good paces".

What breed is he? TB (or tb x something)

The one I am about to bring back into work is Hanoverian x TB (by Demonstrator).
The broodmares are mainly Trakehner with one Hessen x TB.

Depends what level you want to compete at. Most horses can be trained to medium. Some are purpose bred for the job, some just happen to find themselves doing it and do a good job becuase of their training.

WCxHanovarian
He's got medium points, has been on teams, qualified Pet Plan and YR, done BYRDS and is now working towards PSG.
Not bad for a 'cob' bought out of a field for meat money.

Lance is a latvian warmblood...by some horses I cant pronounce LOL!

Beau is by Ramiro B, he was advertised at Goresbridge as young dressage prospect, dont really know wy though as he is bred more towards sj, has big flashy paces though.

You most cetrainly dont need a warmblood to be sucessful in dressage- Jalisco was longlisted for the Olympics too

Our luso boy is about to start competing BD and he could run circles over most warmbloods, he's not only natural at collected work but he has an awesome extension too

Just shows, I think, that a lot is about attitude to learn and work more than the breeding, but then I guess that is also why the WB's are popular!
Thanks to all that replied!
