how away is your yard from home

Stable 50yards field ten yards, other night woke me up got head stuck in bucket, out I trudge to find all sorted gave her pat and back to bed.

Recently moved mine to a new yard and they are now only 1 mile away - I can cycle there. My old grazing was a good 20 mins away by car and in the opposite direction from work and home so I couldn't do much with the horses in winter after work bar feed them. Now if and when I get some work I will still be able to do something with them after work.

I've found I see more of my horses now as I will pop up to turn Serenity out and then pop back to muck out or brush Fantasia the 3yr old.

We've just moved. The last yard was just over a mile away, and we are no 5.2 miles away, but on part livery, so only need to go once a day (once he is settled). There are huge benefits for me--quieter yard, better grazing, school (with decent lighting), hacking and a small XC course in a huge field for riding round. So for me the extra distance works to my advantage.

5 miles so about 20 minutes cycle or 20 minute drive (this is Cambridge after all). I'm totally DIY though so have to be pretty close as am up there two or three times every day :)

LOL! I have the same problems as JT, as I live in the centre of Cambridge too (at a yard further out of town though). It's 7.5 miles in the car, probably more like half that as the crow flies, but still takes me 20 mins as I have to get out of town. I'm so fond of where we are though, that I won't move them closer :)

8 miles away and that takes about 20 mins, then go to work 9 miles in the opp direction takes about 25 mins if no traffic. Do this twice a day and its very boring !

Just outside my house, in fact he can put his head through my sitting room window, he often does. But I also have pet lambs in the house aswell. Best bit is mucking out on a sunday in dressing gown and going back to bed.

10 miles to current one so 20 mins drive.

Moving Saturday further away extra 4 miles but everyday winter turnout not alternate & I'm paying for him to be turned out for me weekday mornings so only 1 trip a day. Still saves me a fortune in livery prices at current place though!

About 3-4 mins drive, close enough to walk in case of snow like last year! I have been 15 mins away but found it a pain especially when you are a bit ocd like me and go back at 10pm to make sure you've shut the gate properly!

I live about 25 mins away. Exactly one motorway junction :/

I hate being so far away and have to admit that there are times that it make me not want to see my horses!

However, its only temporary, until i finish uni. Then i will either be moving closer to the yard or moving home (chesterfield) and back to my old yard up there!!!

I dont think i could do 25mins each way every day. Especially in winter. But this yard is fantastic, and full of my friends so i wouldnt move closer at the minute if i could anyway :)

Thx for the replies, it seems about 10 mins average then that people are comfortable long term dealing with, anything over that then it starts to be come boring. But I suppose...here I am trying to convince myself that although its further away at least during the week I wont be journeying any extra, just weekends. My hubby says I just need to be a bit more organised. The thought of having my own field with shelter and no one to answer to seems like a good compromise its also £50 a month cheaper-- 9 Acres for £80 per month. I do have alternatives closer but I they are all stabled proper livery yards, we have been used to grass livery for past 5yrs so might not work out for us in a yard

15 min drive away.

Has been up to 35/40 mins drive away and it was far too much, didn't get to see much of him and just popping out to feed took about two hours.

I'm about 10 miles away, so 20- 30 mins drive depending on if I go lanes or stick to main roads. Don't really notice the distance anymore tbh :) would like to be able to move mine closer but all the good yards are out aways and I'm diy but have someone turn out for me weekday mornings. So except for weekends I only go up once a day, don't get home till gone 9pm most nights though :(

I'm a 7 min car ride away from my yard - yes saddo that I am I've timed it! I think the most I would do at a push would be a 15 min drive. Unfortunately the fuel prices would be a major factor if I had to move yards. Have thought about cycling to my yard to save fuel and improve my fitness....buts that as far as it has got - a thought!

About 5 mins drive, however my mum can see them in the field from her farm so great for a quick peak.
I did keep my old hunter at a competition yard on livery a few years ago and that was about 30 mins drive away it cost a small fortune in fuel on top of the livery fees.

half a mile, so 3/4 mins in car but can be walked in under 15 mins if needed (snow etc.) clever husband has got place alarmed (which rings us if activated, door and movement sensors) and cctv which he can look at on his computor and I-phone to check all is well, have been in yards in the past much further away and would'nt want to do it again.

1 mile from home and 16 miles from work, I'm on full livery but I often swing by on my way to work for morning pats, then up on evening for riding/groooming :)

When I move house he'll be 5 miles away from home...

17 miles away from front door to yard, 34 miles round trip. i go once a day as i am on assisted livery. it takes me between 25 mins and 45 mins to go one way depending on traffic.

i used to have my horses miles away, i moved to england and left my horses in wales so travelled to see them every day (via severn bridge), that was a hard thing to do but worth it until i could find somewhere suitable over here, they wouldn't have coped with moving alot so we did it just once.

2.5 miles so 5 minutes in the car. I used to be at a yard which was a 20 minute drive away which wasn't actually so bad but in the snow was a nightmare as it was on the top of several steep hills so more like an hour. But I now have a 4x4 so snow and ice shouldn't be a problem this year.

7.5 miles from home - 15mins, 10.5 miles from work, 25 mins. This is a PLEASURE now, as have just moved yards :)

old yard...

16 miles from home - 30mins, 8.5 miles from work, 20 mins.

They are on part livery so only go once a day. I have to sacrifice the travel to mine otherwise would end up at yards with rubbish facilities and no turnout, so don't mind travelling ;)

30secs. they are at home.
i would rather travel a bit more for somewhere with better facilities or i was happier with, but i think 25mins is about the limit even on full livery! (with 3 to ride it adds up time wise!)
