My friend just has bought a 7 year old Trakehner stallion who has perfect bloodlines. He has been bought from meet.

He has a sad story. At the age of 1,5 he has been started under saddle very unprofessionaly. At the age of 2 he jumped 120 cm under saddle and 150 cm free. And one day he has jumped and demaged his front leg. No one knows what had happend to it, but his owner was trying to treat the horse and leg by his own... when it was nearly to late the owner has invited a vet, who just simple cut of tendons. In a few years the second front leg he was standing on also was demaged (the horse is rather heavy to stay on one leg)

Now he is in good hands. All X-rays are done and she is trying to do anything possible to help him walk. Any ideas or advice?

Holy [****] that link needs a warning!!!
i read the post thinking yeah yeah, this person has got it wrong/doesn't know what they are talking about!!
as for advice, the sooner that poor horse is PTS the better!!!!!!!
before even starting on the poor things leg, it also looks like skin and bone, and it's out in the snow with what looks like a very thin coat, and no rugs!!!
Shot it NOW before the poor thing has to go throiugh any more!!!!

Sorry- I lost my first post with a warning in it. It's too late to edit now.

I totally agree that he needs PTS. The owner wants to preserve his bloodlines by breeding him. It makes me so sad!

It definitely needs to be taken the hospital and have all options discussed - I do not necessarily think it needs to be put to sleep, but I hope she has deep pockets.

To me it looks like a ligament, or tendon when cut grew back incorrectly causing the horse not to be able to stretch and stand properly. It could well be a case go in cut it again (or maybe slowly stretch it out with splints), do some farrier work, he could be painfree.

The other leg needs to be looked at too - with it being weight bearing for so long.

Just read your post again.. and the stupid sod who's trying to save it, is being just as cruel!!!!!!!!!
if she is so inlove with its breeding, then ask about taking sperm and freezing it, and the shoting the poor thing.. i mean, with no amount of vet care is that horse ever going to walk, let alone mount a mare!!!

I have actually gone ice cold - that is sick to keep an animal in that condition alive - anyone with half an ounce of decency would let him go now while he at least still has some dignity left.
Poor, poor horse, I hope whoever did this to him and whoever is forcing him to carry on like this suffers the same as what they have inflicted upon this lovely boy.

There's quite a lot more abou this poor boy on the other forum. There's a link in the first post to the thread.

Reading the replies is making me want to cry. I feel so sorry for him.

The horse has no interior foot within the hoof wall on one leg - it has no pedal bone etc therefore there is nothing that could possibly be done for this leg unless they went down the amputation and prosthetic route.

I personally think some porkies may be being told here.

Ah they made some comment regarding the fact that he was being kept for breeding purposes, like Barbaro; but then the implication was that Barbaro shouldn't be bred to as the horse obviously has some serious bone density issue. It went a little off-topic for a moment.

How can the op (from other forum) praise her friend for 'saving' the horse from death?
It was the best thing for the poor creature and now he has to endure even longer, the pain and suffering. She did not save him, she condemned him further.
Different country, different rules. Shocking.

That's what i said earlier.. the bitch who is trying to save him, is being just as cruel as the people who had this horse in the first place!!!
They should all be shot just after the horse is!!

Infact, i can't even believe this thread has made it to a computer, i can't believe that people think there's even a decision to be made!!

no, not meaning to get at you!!
but this kind of do-gooder attitude really pisses me off!!

people saying that "in IMHO it should be PTS".. or, "sorry for upsetting people, but i think it should be PTS"
It's upsetting me to think that anyone would even 'think' of trying to keep it alive!!

I will gladly go round witha gun and shot it now if i know where it was!

Wow that poor horse - hope they make the sensible decision on it.

yeh I know what you mean. 'Well done for saving it from slaughter' WTF? Best thing for it.
It's in Russia I think.. I'm not heartless, but even a drive to slaughterhouse was better than more days/weeks of pain.
