How big are your stables, and what is the minimum size you would happy to keep a 16.2 in?
It seems most yards have 12X12' stables, which IMO are a bit on the small side for a big lad!
Please help as i've found a nice yard, but the stables are 12x12, and i'm worried about him hurting his legs when he rolls!

Just now the stable is 25x30ft for the two of them, but they might be going into the normal 10x14ft ones (one each). I think they look tiny, but it could just be compared to the bigger one!

Well mine are a 3rd of a barn so huge. About 15x25. Would happily put a shire to foal in them. But I wouldn't put my cobs in anything smaller than 12x12 as they are just too big, long and wide, to fit in anything smaller.

I kept my 16.2 ID in a 13'x10' for a few months (I desperately needed to move him & that was the only box free on another yard) & he was fine. I didn't think it was ideal but he had daily turnout & there was never any sign of he getting stuck or being worried by the box size. He's now in a 12'x12' & has plenty of room despite being a big chunky type of 16.2.

i have 3 15x15 stables (2 in use for ponies 1 being used as a tack room) and 1 15x20 stable (we were going to split it into 2 pony stables but my dad made it into a workshed whilst we pulled his down), as well as 3 pony stables of about 10x10. (currently used as a general store)

My 15.2hh cob is in a 14 x 14 open fronted field shelter with a post and railed concrete yard around it so she can walk about. My 15.3hh horse is in a 16ft x 14ft stable and my 14.2hh is in a 14ft by 12ft stable.

Ive got 2 14 x 14 boxes, 2 14 x 12 boxes, 1 16 x 10 for my boys which range from 14.2 to 15.3 and a barn which is about 15 x 40 for the babies.

10'x11' but apparently on the large side for here, I have one boarder stabled now and he's a hulk of a 16 QH.

I should think a 12x12 would be OK for a horse your size, I've had a 17.2 Hannoverian in a 12x12 with no problems, other than him snacking on the walls.

Cairo is a 16.3 clydie and is in a 12 x 12 and is fine. Only downside he is a big horse and the stable gets very messy quickly and he tends to lie in his poo as he is also a very long horse.

Before that he was in a 10 x 14 - but found as he got older, he needed the extra width for turning, hence the change to the 12 x 12 which he is happier with.

As long as they get plenty of time out, cannot see any problem with a 12 x 12 for a larger horse.

My stables are 10 x 11. I had a 16.2 ID in them for the winter and she was fine, soon learnt the limitations!! Ideally, I would like them to be bigger but they are outside my back door so worth the compromise!
My current ned, 16hh, is happy to roll and all sorts in them, but they are turned out all day.

old stable was about 11x12, now about 10x12 and our 14hh fits really well, plenty of room. we were worried about her going in a smaler stable but there was a15.2 in the same stable and perfectly happy. the 16.2s at our riding school are in about 14x15 but thats a bit excesive!

I think Star's is about 14 X 16. Though she tends to live out at the mo as we have plenty of grazing now. She is a very solid 16.2hh. I think she's be okish in a 12 x 12, but I wouldn't really like to keep her in anything smaller as she does lie down at night, and is a bit stiff getting up.

mine gets cast in a huge lunge pen - he just prefers to roll near the edges and likes to thrash his feet in my face as i rescue him. Due to this I have to make sure he goes out everyday in the field (where he chooses not to roll next to fencing - oddly enough) and so when hes in his pen or stable he doesnt role. Its about 12 X 12 and he's as accident prone as it gets.
