I know it's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but in general, how big do you think a 14hh cobby native x jump? I have jumped Toto 3ft which he cleared fine, I think I'm too much of a wimp to jump any higher but just wondering really :)

Here he is

I once jumped a cob of his type over 1.40 metres, so he could jump enormous, you just don't know till you try!

Can you loose jump him. My 13.2hh Will loose jump over 5ft and we have jumped some huge hedges out hunting poss 5ft and over. But the highest i have mesured a showjump that we have jumped was 4ft. It all depends on the horse realy i have jumped some big horses who won't jump over 3ft.

i have seen ponys smaller than him jump 1.20m (4 ft) so depending on his style t a jump and how he is ridden and his ability probley bigger than 3 ft but remember jump what you are comfy jumping

Hard question to answer like you say... He doesnt look like a showjumper type of pony so may not have the natural ability as others. Try loose schooling him over jumps. He could probably comfortably jump 3'3/3'6 but may not be happy jumping much bigger. You wont know till you try him.

Thanks everybody :)

He loves to jump and is very enthusiastic, but sensible, we have jumped 3ft a few times at home, which he comfortably cleared, but we only jump 2ft-2ft 3 at shows to get our show confidence up :) I don't think I would dare to jump more than 3ft, too scary :p Just wondered what other people thought :) I definetely won't be jumping 3ft 3 though JoJo_ :O I'll just stick to little jumps :p

Before we got him, he decided to jump out of his field over a 5 bar gate, he didn't quite make it though and put a huge dent in the gate, it was well over 4ft 6 :O He injured his back leg, but luckily he recovered quickly and needless to say he hasn't tried it again!
