I'm 5ft 3" and about 8 and half stone and mine is 16.3 hunter. Would like him to be 15.2 thou so I can get on easier :) if I drop something out hacking I have to abandon it!

I'm 5ft8 and 9 and a half stone. My boy is a 15 hands Appaloosa x and is the perfect size for me. I used to like riding ponies (the smaller the better!) but just recently I have developed a soft spot for big horses (those 17 hands +) so would love to own a big horse one day. :)

god you all make me feel so weird! I love the bigger horses even though I'm only 5'4 and nearl tipping 10 stone (serious weight loss needed :( ) here's me with my YO's 17.2 boy who I love riding! Like some other posters say they're serious confidence givers :D

Big enough to carry me comfortably.:p
I'm not as light as I was in my younger years.
Currently have a19 yr 14.2 Fjord - a definite weight carrier :D
A 14 yr 16.1 Kwpn - old fashioned chunkier build.
A 5 yr 16.3 Kwpn - had her 3 weeks now. She needs fat and muscle building up but she will also be able to carry me no problem.
A 2yr Kwpn who is currently standing at 16.2 and will probably make 17.2!!

If you are 5'4" then there is no way that horse is 17.2!

I doubt if he were measured correctly on a level surface and allowed to relax. he would even be 16.2.

Another shortie with a big lad here! I am 5'6" and weigh just under 9st but big pony is bigger than our measuring stick (that's 18hh). I wanted a 15.2 so i don't know what happened...

I'm 5' 2 and my horse is a 15hh cob. Sometimes I get self conscious when I go to a show/event and all the other adults are on much bigger horses. But then when I see pictures of myself on Milly, I realise I would look stupid on anything taller... :o

I'm 5' 7" ish... My TB is only 15.2 but deceptively wide in the saddle/girth...

He's a nice size for my legs... 33" and I ride long... Plus I can (it's really not pretty) scramble up from the ground if I had to... I just don't ride him because he's young, a tad green and so responsive to leg aides there's nothing relaxing about taking him out on a lazy hack... Young QH is a solid lad and currently 15.3 rising 3yrs... I'm hoping he doesn't grow much more...

These days I have no concerns about size/temperament on the ground but once I'm "up there" it's a different ball game confidence wise... Less than 16h works just fine for me... :)

I'm around 5'4-6 people say different so I'm never too sure but this horse definitely is 17.2, plus the riding hat always makes me look taller and my gaiters are too tall for me :(

Well 'Fueledbyaisling' you are not weird. I like big horses, I rode for a while an ex grand national horse. He was great. I have also ridden a Clydesdale he was very tall as well. Your horse looks lovely and it doesn't matter what height it is.

Best wished H&G

Photos are funny things. I have some photos that I am in and where my horses look much smaller than they do in real life and some where they look bigger. He is a big horse. Cheers.

5ft 9 weight varies but on average 11 stone (not majorly overweight but i could do to loose some) not a sparrow is how I'd describe myself ;):p I have a 15.2 lw/mw cob mare I think if i were to buy another I'd want something around a hand higher and a bit chunkier than my present companion however Ebony is perfect in all respects for me :)

16.2hh is my ideal height. I'm 5'8 with long legs so can justify needing a big horse but I do prefer a big horse overall and having something in front of me, especially for jumping. I have had some fun riding smaller horses, and the horse I'm hopefully going to ride is only 15.2hh, but it's just what I prefer.

I do not care what size they are as long as they can do the job that is required of them.

One thing I have learned is that horses that are over 16.2 (and a genuine 16.2 which most people think is 17.2) are more likely to get leg and/or wind problems.

I have to agree. I like riding big horses but after losing the last 3 prematurely to different illnesses, I've decided that 16hh is now my limit. I do like a horse that 'takes up the leg' though, as my legs are particularly long in comparison to my body.
