My 2 years 2 months old welsh is just standing at 14.2hh i bought him with the idea that he would make 15hh at least as his full brother and sister are both 15hh+ His bum height is 14.3hh how big is he going to make?
I think i am just fighting a losing battle with him as i am sick of not being able to ride competitively but don't know if i could sell him, now i am worried i will be waiting for him and then he will end up being too small anyway.
Rant over

Yep I think he'll make the 15hh plus for you

Assuming your measurements are accurate/correct...then i'd reckon he'll make 15 - 15.1hh - I had one pony out of a a 14.3 mare, and a 14.1 stallion (welsh cobs) make 15hh.

Think what you're feeding makes a difference - they might all end up 7yo at same height but the ones who are really pushed on do appear to 'sprout' a bit quicker in my experience - time to full maturity all the same though, they just take longer to fill out.

It's not just mum and dad's height you need to look at, have a look at whole pedigree and see what's there.

What's his breeding?

My 2 year old (and 3 months) is 14.2 at the moment and his dam and sire are 15.2 and 15.2. I hope he'll make at least 15hh but would really like him to get to 15.2hh I think there is every chance that he'll make the 15hh without too much trouble and probably do the last couple of inches later as with his breeding he'll be growing until 6/7.
I think yours will get to 15hh
my section D is 15hh on his tipee toes and he is a great height for me

Llanarth solo is by Llanarth True Briton who might partly account for the height.

I have a few ponies who are looking to be quite tall (i.e. taller than mum or dad) which have True Briton as their maternal grandsire. Be interesting to know mum's breeding though.

Some nice old fashioned cob bloodlines on dad's side, do you show him?

A vet i met out in South Africa swore by this... is you take a tape measure from a front hoof and take it straight up to his elbow, then that should be the distance from his elbow up to his withers... I have no idea how if at all it works, but he was adamant that he was right!!!
