I ride a brilliant 17.3 sporhorse/cob mix at the riding school I'm at and it's great. I've always preferred big horses to small ones. My ideal size is 16.2 or 16.3, but I'm actually really liking riding a 17+ hand horse now!

I always used to like the big ones. I rode a 17hh TB in the riding school, my first share horse was 17.1hh, my second was 16.3hh. But when it came to buying my first horse, I made my head rule my heart and got something that would be easier to handle and transport. (I can actually place the saddle on her, rather than throwing it up there and hoping!) She seemed very small at first, but she's so wide that you still feel you've got a lot of horse under you.

16.3 TB X (I'm 5'3 and used to riding small chunky natives).

I wasn’t perturbed so much by the height of him, but the fact that their was no barrel to wrap my legs around. It was like riding a broomstick! He was very safe albeit with slightly iffy steering. ?
