How big will my filly make?

My filly is a Warmblood cross not sure what her dad was as she came as a surprise ten months after we bought our mare :). She is 15 months and standing 14.3hh mum is 16.2 just wondered if anyone has an idea. Thanks
 
I was told by someone off this forum when i asked about my youngster that 1 hand from yearling until 2 and the 1 hand until mature.

So if your horse was 14hh at 1 they will be 15hh at 2 and then 16hh fully mature.

So far it has been right for my lad but i can't say if this is a proven fact?!!?
 
The saying is.... add 2 hands onto the height of a yearling, and 1 hand onto the height of a 2 year old..... this is only a rough guide..... you could also do the 'string test' measure from the middle of the knee to the middle of the coronet band and whatever the measurement is in inches will be the final height in hands... i.e. 17" = 17hh

Saying that, there are exceptions to the rule..... my last horse was 15.1hh as a yearling and ended up standing 17.3hh as a 6yo.... and my current mare was standing 16.1hh as a 3yo and now as a 5yo is approx. 17.1hh and still bum high!!:eek:

So, tbh, unless you know the parentage, you really can't tell....
 
I bought my 2 year old dutch warmblood the day she turned 2 in May and she was standing at 14.2hh, she's now standing at 15.2hh - has grown a whole hand in 4 months.
If the one hand from age 2 rule is right, in theory she's finished growing lol.
I expect her to grow more, her dam is 16hh and her sire is 16.1hh and I expect her to make about the 16hh mark.
At 2 years 4 months old, I would have thought she's still got some growing to do, or I certainly hope so!
I would think your filly will go over the 16hh mark x

This is a very rough guide...... This is your filly's 2nd year, so she'll probably make approx. 16.2hh

WB's do tend to grown on until about 7 yrs :)

My friend bought a 16.3hh 4yo WB x TB........ at 7yrs he stands at 18.1hh!!! :eek:

Blimey, I'm hoping mine stops growing around 16hh/16.1hh.

I've also a welsh section D filly, she was 12.2hh at 10 months , is now 16 months and standing at 13.2hh. She's predicted to make 14.2hh, but I'm hoping she goes a bit bigger, 15hh be nice.
Its such a lottery with youngsters :)
 
It is a lottery unless you can go back through their pedigree about 5 generations, but then again, they will make what they make......

I'm 6'2".... my mum is 5'8" and my dad is 6'3"!! Lol.... :)

Sorry to go off key, i just wanted to say wow! A 18.1 wb x tb .. I'd love to see that I bet he's stunning! What a big lad lol
 
He IS an eye-catching horse - friend is 6'1" and makes him look 'normal'. He is by a stallion called Templ Croesus....... same friends bro has just bought a Shire x Hann and he stands at 18.2hh!!!!!

I went on a sponsored ride with them and my mare is 17.1hh - she looked like a pony stood in between these two!!! :eek::D

Blimey, very big horses but then you're all rather tall and "fit" your horses.
I'm 5'2", I dont think I could actually get on horses that size without a ladder lol
