How big will she end up?

I tried a 14.2hh connie, only 4 years old. Absolutely beautiful attitude to life, super sweet on the ground, produced really well and slowly.

I know it’s a bit of a “how big is a piece of string” question but how big is she likely to end up?

I love her but I feel like when I watch the videos back, she looks quite weedy under me. Obviously know she will fill out as she is in more work and grows etc but I basically I just wish she was a couple of inches bigger.

Or do I just forget about her and wait for a bigger connie to come along? I really hate horse shopping - I’d like to just skip forward 6 months please.

Oh you tried her well done! Hope it didn't feel too weird. She won't go up much maybe an inch or so. How did you feel on her weight wise? I'm thinking when I look I don't want something I'll have to worry about squashing after all the Christmas chocolates have been eaten

Unlikely to grow much in height, but should feel bigger once fit & muscled.
Every overheight connie I've ever known has broken at a young age (5 of them, one mine, the others belonging to various friends & acquaintances.
Edited to add, if you like her & feel happy/ safe then buy the pony. If in 12 months you really do still feel too big you can sell then. Finding a horse you gel with & is sound is hard, grab her with both hands before someone else does 🙂

Unlikely to grow in height!? Lol I don't know about that. My connemara went from 15hh to 15.3hh between the ages of rising 5 and 8. Connemaras mature very slowly.

My other one also gained .2hh between the ages of rising 4 and rising 6.

Thank you. It was okay actually! That’s the thing, I always worried about being too heavy for Nova, who was 15.3hh (even though realistically I wasn’t). I know connies are more weight carriers than TBs but I don’t want to be constantly worrying that I’m too heavy for her.

I think it’s probably best to look for a bigger connie and hope I can find one with the same attitude as she does.

I have had two connies from age 3. After 4 one grew 3 inches and ended up at 15.1. The other grew about an inch and ended up at barely 15 hands. Both filled out hugely and have carried me easily. Both the most amazing little horses.
