I have a lovely, leggy Oldenburg filly who is 16 month old and approx standing at 15hh at present. Any idea how I can work out a guesstimate of what she'll mature too?
Her Sire is 16.3hh (Balouet du Rouet) and her dam is approx 15.2hh.

I have a 15 month cold standing at 15h - his sire is 17h2 and dam 16h and he is expected to make 17h. My friend has a colt the same age and he is expected to make the same but is already standing at 16h! I Suppose it depends on the legginess...

Have you tried measuring the cannon bone? Lenght in inches at 12 months is supposed to equate to height in hands fully grown.

Thanks for your reply Equidae!
It is a bit of a puzzle as I have friends too who's babies are doing the same.
As an 8 month old she was very tall (classic leggy Oldenburg!) and looked as if she was going to be massive! Lol
Thanks for the cannon bone idea, will look into it.

My gelding's parents are both 15.1 and he was a very tall youngster. He string tested at 16hh with the cannon bone method and 16.2 with the elbow to ergot method... I almost had a heart attack as I don't want something that big. Now it's looking like he just has long legs, so yes, legginess can be deceptive (although if he shoots up four inches in the next year I may have to purchase a step ladder).
