Ok, so i'm buying a new saddle, I have a good saddler coming to sort etc but how do I know if it fits me??? is there some sort of rule book someone can open for me? I'm a size 14 - don't know if itss as simple as that tho...??? Any polite help appreciated!!

Its to do with the length of your leg and the discipline you do, but saddles vary a lot from brand to brand so its a case of trying out what is comfy for you and your horse. The length of its back and positioning of the last rib will dictate how long a saddle your horse can carry.

You are employing a good saddler & are paying for their expertise & knowledge. If they fit a saddle they will fit it to both you & your horse. When they say it fits then you will know it fits. Saddle fit does however change over time & you may need the saddler back in the future to refit following a change in the horse's physique.

Ditto above. When I got a saddle fitted they took one look at me and my horse and stated straight away that a 17inch would be good. A 16.5 would be too small for me, and a 17.5 would be too long for the horse. Then went into the back of the van and pulled out a few saddles he thought fit for me and the horse.

As above, but just make sure that you are happy with what they try to sell you. It has been known that some might encourage you to buy a saddle that's 80% perfect when you could keep looking and find the 100% perfect one. They can always come back again with more saddles once they've seen the horse and you and have a better idea of your shapes/preferences.

Make sure you are comfortable sitting in whatever seat size you like and the saddler will ensure that it's not too long for the horse's back.

Saddle shopping is fun, I'm jealous!!

Make sure you get to try out and actually ride in their reccomendation, sitting in it doesn't really tell all. It can feel comfortable, but riding will tell you if you're balanced in it.
They should let you try it out, or a good saddler will anyway x
