went to a local show today and couldn't believe the way i was treated by the so called judge, i was placed last - which by the way i'm not worried about, been placed last before and accepted judge's reason for it, so this is not a sour grapes post!!
but i feel if there are on;ly 7 in a class at local = grass roots level, the judge should tell everyoneyone why they were placed where we were.......not this rude ignorant woman....she gave all the others their rosettes and COMPLETLEY blanked me and turned her back on me - she didn't even thank the competitors for taking part, now am i just old fashioned in thinking that she is lacking basic manners??? how would you feel to be blanked like that would it make you angry or am i too soft!??
i put in a complaint to the secretary as i felt that she was extremley rude in her manner and i will not be going under her again, if i show ever again that is......i am fed up with rude judges.....

No way how rude!! This is one reason why i stopped showing, you get really nice good judges and bad miserable judges!!But i think a smile/nod/ quick word of advice would have been appropriate in your case.
Dont give up, you just have to make note of the judges that were unpleasant and avoid in future!

I know how you feel I have come across many stuck up and rude judges when I used to show, thankfully there are some nice ones out there. I personally think you should complain, otherwise she will carry on with that manner but if you complain something may be done about it.

drjames, that is horrible did you ask for their reasons behind it?

Unfortunately you seem to get this sort of attitude from a lot of judges. The last AHS show I went to I was placed 5th out of 6, the judge barely threw the rosette at me and walked off without uttering a word.

Last show I went to (Cranleigh) the judge was lovely and spoke to everyone.

I would complain about the judge. I know alot of them give up their time voluntarily, but the least they could do is thank the competitors and offer some advice. Otherwise, what's the point in them turning up. If they are that bored with it, why don't they give it up !. Without the competitors there wouldn't be a show. Think they are sometimes so up themselves that they forget that !!!!!!!!!!

oh dear thats awful...what was it???

When I'm Judging I try to offer help/advice to all the competitors, most of whom are glad of it, then I finish off with:-

"Well done all of you - let's have a lap of honour, please" and put my hands together to encourage those at the ringside to join in.

Me too - had a terible dressage yesterday, came last because my usualy perfect pony was suffering separation anxiety, napping out of the arena and cantering free walk did not go down well!. I can cope with that but the comments were so negative. I was thinking it was just me but the winner (who we all hate because she always gets over 60%) got a low score too. The judge asked another competitor after the test if they had riding lessons?

If it was an affiliated copetiotion then fair enough, but this was prelim at our local riding club. If you cant go there as a novice or on a young horse where can you go! GRRRRRR
