Well i found out today just how bombproof my horses are. We had the air ambulance flying around the fields, very low, trying to find somewhere to land in the village this morning. All the horses in the fields through the village were going mad and galloping around except my 4 :D. They just carried on eating and didn't notice it flying over their heads. I really can't believe how unbothered about it they were as they are mostly youngsters being a 3 year old, a couple of 5 year olds and a nutty 21 year old.
I love my neddies :D

When I bought my youngster he had awful (but superficial) injuries to his chest and forelegs from smashing through 2 lots of post+rail fencing when a low-flying helicopter frightened him and he bolted. He was found 3 miles up the road, stood shivering in the middle of a ploughed field.
I got him cheap because we assumed the wounds would scar. I didn't care, I liked him anyway and have a "so what if he won't show? I'd find a job for him" attitude :) turns out the wounds healed beautifully and all that is left is a couple of white hairs on his brown chest :D
Anyway, imagine my horror when, a few months after I bought him home, a helicopter appeared in the distance, low flying, and headed straight for our direction. I froze, mum froze, Dex stopped grazing, pricked his ears, and cocked his head to watch it fly straight over our heads so low that you could see the pilot was wearing aviator sunglasses  then he resumed his grazing without a flicker of worry :D the relief made my knees knock! Lol. He's super chilled now, though. He likes to march over to new stuff and make up his own mind about it. I have bought an exercise cart to break my cob mare to drive; I rolled it off the trailer onto the yard - Dex stomped over, had a good old sniff at it, picked up a loose bit of wood from the footwell and chucked it across the yard, then started licking the seat. Silly boy! Think he might actually make a fairly laid back driving hoss :D

I met a helicopter taking off from a field whilst hacking. We've also had twin rotor ones fly low over the yard. My mare doesn't bother, first time she met one she was rising 4 and didn't make a fuss - she's fab.

I had a couple of stalkers here the other day looking at a pony for extracting culled deer. A jet came over very low and they both ducked. The ponies did not even lift their heads. Not surprising really as my stud is situated next to an MOD weapons training area and they see them every day. Taking one of the same youngsters out for a hack and she was seriously suspicious of........a tree trunk I had pulled out of the wood for the fire! Another, a yearling, refused to walk past a 4x4 bale of hay until he was reassured it wouldn't eat him! But low flying jets and helicopters? Pah! Kids stuff!:D Aren't horses funny sometimes?

:D that's so funny, I like it when they are like that. Our Belgian draft would do that. He also loves tractors. When they pass the calls out to them and then wants to follow them  however my welshie would go bonkers..... Horses ;)

None of mine have ever been bothered by helicopters.Met one out hacking when on my fell pony years ago (he is now owned by fresian80 on here:)),big double ended thing that rose up over the brow of the hill beside us,I almost pooped my pants, pony just started eating the hedge, typical food orientated fell pony lol:p

My current field get's a lot of helicopters flying overhead (opposite a marine base),so they don't bat an eyelid. Not sure would be so happy to meet one out riding though on my current spotty lad,he can be a bit of a drama queen fruit loop when ridden:rolleyes:,grumpy welsh cob wouldn't care less though, probably just use it an as opportunity to rest for a few moments or snatch a sneaky bite of hedge;)

It's great to hear of everyone elses horses that are ok with them :D. I have had a few very low planes go over me when out riding and had no bother in the past :D.

I was having my lesson today. Cantered round the corner on my 4 yr old on the approach to a complex grid standing at 90cm, loud roar and a jet comes roaring low overhead.

Not a flicker off my boy, kept his rhythm and popped through all three elements no probs!

Love him to pieces.

We are near an RAF ground so horses are very used to sound barrier breaking jets. Still, so proud of him!

Presses like button :)

While out hacking on the moor today my 5 year old carried on regardless as two low flying jets went over us!
Then on the way home a really low helicopter passed by, she stopped and watched it go over our heads!
But boy there were a few horse eating cow pats and granite stones out to get her!
