How can I keep horse tail up and out of the mud

Otherwise, when clean, I oiled it or used mane and tail so mud tended to drop off, although the tick stuff was a terror.
Yes, I wash it then do a final rinse in hot water, squeeze out, and then literally rub baby oil through the whole thing, then brush. I know that's supposed to make hair brittle but it lasts ages and the mud slides out. Even on clay mud I only had to do it every few weeks.

I think someone rinsed me online for always having my horses tails in a bag but it’s just easier. They are plaited and pig oiled and kept clean, I don’t have to brush them out or wash regularly. Works for me.
