How can I lock my Ifor Williams Horse Trailer Ramps?

Greetings to my horse friends in the UK from New Mexico. I own an Ifor Williams 510.

I've recently moved and found a great place to board my horse. However, due to problems with thefts in the area, I cannot leave my saddle within boarding barn.

I will be storing my horse trailer there, though, and so the logical and best place to keep my saddle is inside the trailer. Ifor Williams trailers are nearly unheard of here in the states. Surely, solutions for locking the ramps have been developed?

I'll use a bicycle cable lock to secure the saddle and saddle stand to the center post inside the trailer, but I'd rather thwart thieves before they get that far.

At least, here in the U.S., standard padlocks are too thick to insert through the pin holes in the door latches.

Ideas? Solutions? I'm looking at a small alarmed cable padlock, but perhaps there is something simpler?

Would something like this https://www.etrailer.com/Locks/Fulton/FCLK150100.html work? If you attached some eyelets to the trailer and threaded the cable through it so it was half way up the trailer you could have the lock by the door.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that hole for the locking pin is only a quarter inch wide at best: Even if that cable is narrow enough, I wouldn't be able to thread it in through the opening.

I don't know if I'll explain this very well ...

Our iFor had top doors that were secured by anti-loose pins. Once done up we then put some thin padlocks through the locks... If that makes sense!!

Do you have a lock for the grooms door?

If so you could try the following

To all the top doors weld a reasonable sized door bolt, drill holes into the top beam of the ramps. To lock from inside - drop bolt into the holes in the ramp.

You an also be a PITB to all would be thieves and put even small padlocks in each of the drop down catches on both ramps.

Park the trailer as tight as you can, back to the wall so the ramp can't be dropped. Use a wheel clamp - the sort parking wardens use to imobilise the wheels.

Fit a tow ball lock.

Don't forget to bring the keys every time you go to the stables! I have started using combination locks that can be changed

I have to smile about your advice to add a toll ball lock on the trailer. My trailer is so uncommon here, that thieves will pass it by for American trailers, many of which look very much alike. I have no worries on it disappearing at all. But thanks again. adding locks this way will work!
