How can i make him relax?

How long have you had him?

How old is he?

What situation is he stressed in? is he stressed in the field or stable? and how do you know he's stressed?

ive only had him for a week so obviously that contributes. hes 8. when i ride him out in fields but is fine riding out in the village! he sweats up and he tenses his entire body. so yer...
 
Is he just getting a bit excitable? trying to run?

When you say ride him out in the field do you mean like a hack over the fields or when schooling in a field?

I would just work on schooling him, plenty of transitions, nice and relaxed, talking to him and reassuring him.
 
it took me and my old horse 6 months to relax with each other untill i took H&H's people advice and do ground work, in hand... walk him out become his friend on the ground and being his friend on his back with simply follow.

good luck and be patient! im sure u will get on jut fine in a few weeks.
 
I wouldnt worry to much,you r new to each other,he is probably thinking the same as you,lol!!a week is nothing,it will take months to build a partnership,emjoy and be confident,the more confidence that swells from you the more he will trust you!!Horses love routine,some more than others will react adversely to a change in routine!!!Patience and i am sure you will be ok,2 people gettimg to know each other,he will soon trust and know who you r!!!x
