How can i make my pony go faster?

i have a 12.2 cob like pony and he will not keep up on hack when we have a canter he is 20 but fit so i dont see why he cant keep up so any suggestions are great full thankyou x

1. are you getting too big for him

2. is he carrying too much weight

3. are you trying to keep up with ponies that are just much faster

4. is he fit and well

5, Are the other ponies/horses young?

After all he is 20.

Is he willing to canter or do you have to really push him on to get him to canter, perhaps its just his age, maybe he's too old for bombing about like he used to do...if he used to, or maybe the other ponies just have quicker strides or perhaps the ground is too hard your pony to go faster than he already is doing, is he fit for his age or in comparison to the other ponies you go out with? perhaps you just have to in consideration his age now.

Maybe he has a reduced range of movement now hes older, so his stride length is shorter. and if you are trying to keep up with bigger horses he is at a disadvantage anyway.

At 20 years of age i think he deserves to go at the speed he is most comfortable at. You certainly shouldnt be pushing him to keep up with others if he doesnt want to.
