My horse has mild sweetitch so his mane is long in the middle and about an inch long at the top and an itch at the bottom....i've left it to do iths own thing! but i want to take him hunting but his mane needs to be plaited doesnt it?

I could probably only do 3 plaits in the middle of his mane! lol

i dont want to hog him so how do i get around this? x

I chop a bit out of the middle of the tail banded in into the mane and then plaited, it need gel of mouse to stick the hairs together as well, good luck its really fiddley!!

How often do you hunt? I'm a stickler for plaiting but sometimes when they've rubbed their manes its looks a bugger half plaited! Is he too fine to hog?

hmmm...yes he's too fine too hog, it wouldnt suit him either! x

his sweet itch isnt too bad but he has rubbed top bit off and his rug has rubbed the bottom bit off lol x

Those horse extensions seem a good idea.....sure i could make some out of his tail!! x

i havent taken him before but my old hunt are quite strict x im going with a new hunt so not sure how strict they are otherwise id just explain!! x

The idea of plaiting is to show respect to whoever is hosting the hunt meet and landowners. So long as you are neat and tidy and have plaited what is left of your horses mane, no one with any manners should comment.

You should also, with hair gel be able to plait down the mane growing out, or fold it down holding it in place with elastic bands in order to keep it neat until it has grown out to match the rest of the mane. Not easy, but so long as the rest of your mount is clean including tack and your coat, you should be ok.

Good luck & enjoy your hunting.
