hi all i bought a 8month old colt in dec wormed him with equest and shed loads of pinworms 4 weeks later thy were bk so he waas wormed with pramox this didnt touch them contacted vet they suggested putting wormer up his bum so did this 2 weeks later adult living worms still present so vet gave me 5day panacure he had this in january. 2day i went to poo pick and i find pin worms all over his poo. i cant understand were they have come from as i have moved him into a clean field that hes never been in b4 nor has other horses been in there. i have some panacur here at home will he be ok to worm again if he had his last lot in jan

Panacur is a 13 week wormer isn't it? I would check with your vet but I think that this is the only wormer which will touch the pinworms.

I have had a conversation with my vets recently re pin worms, their advice was that modern wormers eg equest/pramox are not particularly good at dealing with pinworms, they said the old fashioned white wormers are the way to go, panacur guard the 5 day course should clear them but you will need to worm every 6 weeks to break the cycle. never heard of putting wormer up the bottom !! Also if your foal is itching around the bottom wash the area twice a day with hibiscrub as this is where the eggs are laid.

thankyou for the reply i have started the 5day course again i also have the liquid to wipe on his bum daily to kill the eggs. he has never shown the sighns of being itchy but will apply it any way. i am going to section his field off 2moz as its huge can make 4 good sized paddocks out of it so will be able to keep him in a section and rotate him round. i had to put the wormer up the bum as hed alreaady had a lot of wormer and as the adult pin worms live in the anus we the vet decided it would be safer to bipass the gut by inserting it up his bum.
