From other skin ailments?

It's doned on me that I know nothing about these, what differenciates them from other skin problems?

How could you tell if your horse had one??

Thanks!

Hi sorry i cant link the site but better if you look at liverpools university website for sarciods it is very informative with lots of pics and info.Just google .

Truth is you cant. BUT - if you biopsy (which is the only definitive way to identify a sarcoid) you risk encouraging them to spread.
There are many different types of sarcoids which makes it more difficult still and they are often confused or mistaken for (or vice versa) - melanomas, squamous cell carcinomas, other types of tumours and occasionally fly bites.
Get an experienced vet out to have a look and take some pics to email to Dr Knottenbelt.

Ah yes found a couple of knowlagable websites - thanks!
this -

Suprisingly found someone on a forum saying -
"I had a horse a few years ago that had a sarcoid. I scrubbed it, I picked at it, I cleaned it, I applied medication~All without gloves on!!! I know, I know wicked stupid on my part! That aside, I ended up being diagnosed with a cardiac sarcoid about 1 1/2 yrs ago that I had to have a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted because of. Doctors say there is no connection, I think there is. I think it's just that no one has made the connection yet. I'm not trying to hijack I just wanted to give a warning. I'm convinced it was from that horse."

Please tell me they are just being paranoid!:eek::eek:

I would not go near a sarcoid without double gloves. Ever since I discovered my horse's, I keep getting tiny warts on my hands.:(

The vet reckoned there's no connection, as did my GP. The dog vet didn't even know what they were and came back having looked up sarcoidosis (tumours on internal organs, not the same at all).
