If your riding hat is broken, someone at the yard told me if you hold the riding hat either side and put slight pressure on, it should not creak, if it does it is broken is she right?

If not what other ways can you tell?

You shouldn't be able to push it in to a certain extent and yes it should defiently NOT creak, and also you can sometimes tell as they have a line on the outside of the hat that is very prominate.

I have to say that if in any doubt you should replace it immediately and it should be replaced every few years anyway. Considering you can get a new troxel for £35 it is worth finding the money if you are concerned yours might be a bit dodgey.

When you squeeze it you should not get excessive play or any sounds from it. If you've had a bad impact, then as has been said by previous poster, if you have any doubts about your hat then change it!

Hats can be replaced, heads can't.
