Teach a pony to wee when you are out on a hack. The reason why l am asking is my boy always seems to need to go when we are out but will not do it l don`t no if it`s because l am on his back. He keeps stopping as if he wants to go l have tried whistling and singing (a bit embarassing if people are walking bye lol). As soon as we get home he is straight in his stable and does a massive one. I just worry he is doing himself harm holding on to it for so long.

I personally would have said whistling, but if you've tried that, then sorry I don't know anything else

I have the same problem, haven't mananged to sort it for 9 years! I give him plenty of oppurtunity, and even dismount if I can tell he's desperate, but he still rarely goes. Its his choice, I'd hope if it was doing damage he's just pee when he needed to!

Try taking him in some long grass and stand up and see what happens. The one I ride always wees just before we get home - she goes all wobbly before she needs one then stops when we reach grass!

The prefer long grass or a soft landing for the wee as they don't like it splashing onto their legs !!! - they do try to be hygenic !!!!

Tell me about it - Chex will pee on the fresh hay so he doesn't have to do it on the frosty hard ground

Thanx l will try and put him in the long grass and see if that works.

I would have said whistling and long grass too. Don't have to deal with this a my mare just loves to stop on the road to wee.
