The one I’m looking at is a 20 minute drive - this means I get good hacking.
I mean if there was heavy snowfall I would have no chance of getting there it’s down winding country lanes. But like I say it’s got really varied hacking and good facilities too.
yup agree! that year I couldn't get to the yard in the car, car was snowed into car park at home, (and couldn't get up the steep hilly lanes anyway when I dug it out) and the horses were about 6 miles away as the crow flies. They ran out of hay. I carried haynets of horsehage every day on foot, having nicked some walking poles from my mother to help climbing the slopes which where thigh deep in places. it was uphill all the way, jeez I was fit that winter lugging kilos of haylage on my back everywhere I wentOwning a horse makes you superhuman. If we haven't arranged cover, we get there. During the snowy winters of 2009/2010, everyone on my yard got through miles of snowy lanes and took it in turns to stay all day in case they couldn't make the journey later on. People help each other out when the weather is extreme. I've ditched the car and walked the last 2 miles because of 3' floods.
