How come this isn't banned??

I couldnt even watch it all!!! Ugh some people are such *******ing idiots oh I am so so so cross. I wish I was there, I would throw every single rider and cheerer down that hill as hard as I could so they landed at the bottom on a pile of pain.

Why? why? why?!! i just dont get it, they know there is going to be huge numbers of horrific injuries and fatalities, so why do it? why enter your horse in such a disgusting race. Obviously must literally not give a **** about these beautiful animals. Wish i could help, but i guess you cant save them all , can only look after the ones i have to the very best of my abilities..just makes me so sad..sometimes i hate people

Now this is something that should be banned. Why anyone would want to risk injuring themselves and their horse doing something as stupid as this is beyond me. Sheer idiocacy. I believe this sort of thing started after the movie, Man From Snowy River, came out. They were trying to duplicate the scene where the hero rides his horse down the side of the mountain chasing the wild brumbies. Uhm, that was a specially trained horse with a stunt rider plus a lot of trick photography angles.

Just can't stand these evil ****s . Why oh why don't more of the so called riders break their bloody necks???

Criminal, evil, not enough words. Or tears. :(

what happens in it? I dont want to watch it because Im a softie and would end up crying if its an awful video :(

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend watching it.... It's called "horses plunge to death in "suicide" race. I watched about 5 seconds before wanting to be sick.

Absolutely atrocious.

It's horrid and cruel for the horses without a doubt....

What I DON'T get however, is WHY the people on top want to damn do it?!? It ain't riding nor brave, it's just an exotic suicide attempt. NOTHING would make me want to do it. I hate going downhill at the best of times.

The joys of foreign traditions [Though I wonder what they'd see hunting like?]. Some things I'll never understand.

Oh my word. Poor horses. Evil, twisted, nasty people. they deserve to be pushed down that hill themselves  I do hope this is banned asap, for the horses sake :(

I watched it for about 4 seconds and I just felt sick and extremely angry. How anyone can make a poor, defenseless and trusting animal do that is totally beyond me. If people want to try and kill themselves by doing stupid things then they're more than welcome to do it by themselves but to force an innocent animal to do that is totally disgusting. Makes me really sad and angry.

It's a Horse race where they run down a very steep slope with a loose sand surface and then they go through a river. One Horse (and they show the same clip over and over) falls then rolls to the bottom. It rolls over its jockey a few times.

They then show some leg injuries but I never watched it all as it kept freezing. It all looks very unfair and un-necessary but you could say they same about racing here where Horses also injure legs and sometimes have to be destroyed. Don't forget that Horses do sometimes die / are PTS from eventing and even showjumping injuries. This is just a neutral comment I'm not being pro or anti racing etc!! The gulley at Burgie (XC course) can't be much less steep than that but no-one rides it at a flat out gallop nor is the surface loose!

Before everyone jumps on me I totally agree that that clip shows racing that's way more likely to injure them and is also taking advantage of their nature to a higher degree. I am in no way supporting it.

I wouldn't blame the movies, I'm pretty sure suicide races are older than movies.

As to why people want to do things like this . . . people do all sorts of dangerous, stupid things to get a buzz. But I don't think they should be allowed to drag animals into their silliness (although many people would argue that lets eventing out, too . . ).

ss, I would say perhaps its the stats. 6 horses injured of 17 I would guess is much higher than anywhere else. I suspect the pts stats post race once horses are home are probably pretty high too given the injuries....

a little like the italian palio race clips that I think mairi has posted before though I remember them as being unpleasant too

thanks suzysparkle, urgh dear that sounds terrible, Not my cup of tea. I know eventing and XC can be dangerous, but its done all year by thousands of people and casualties arnt too common, but by the sounds of things this race doesnt happen often, and a several horses life is over in a matter of minutes doing it, therefore if this happened as often as XC and eventing does, the death toll would be huge. Therefore I dont think eventing is anywhere near as dangerous as this.

Disgusting. I watched that clip then saw another where they had interviewed some people and asked about horses getting hurt etc. Sounds like it is a big rodeo event so its not just that race that draws the crowds in but some of the spectators didnt seem to care at all about the horses getting hurt. Some didnt answer the question at all. They just talked about it being tradition. One of the riders spoke about people and horses are just earning their living doing this as if that makes it all ok!

I had no idea a race like that existed. And if people reckon it should keep going because of tradition then they probably think other vile sports like bear baiting should be brought back!

It was on Virgin 1, 'Most Extreme Videos' on Tv the other day. I can't believed they showed it on British TV. After the horses have gone through the river they have to gallop along a stoney path to the finish. The race has 'no rules' according to the TV presenter and all the riders are carrying whips beating the horses to the finish. I was disgusted, I wonder if there is one of those ipetitions against it?

Totally agree. My comments were only to point out that all equestrian sports carry a risk. But this one clearly is unacceptably high!!
