How could this injury have happened? Posted everywhere.

This injury is now 1 week old. It is on the hind leg. Three injuries to the bone cuttting round to the inside of the leg. The field has been scoured since the injury was done and nothing found.
We have had a suggestion but wondered if anyone had seen a similar injury. It happened in the evening two hours after i left. I would not normally have returned but thankfully i did. The vet was called imediately called.

looks like post/rail damage to me....

far too jagged for an axe/machete...

and the horse just wouldnt stand still for 2 cracks, would it??

Looks like an electric fencing tape wound to me.
Knew a horse once that did that, had the thick tape wrapped round it's leg and set off, it made wounds exactly like them. Was a right mess but did heal - albeit with a fair bit of proud flesh but think there is more stuff on the market to stop this now.

looks like wire or an elec fence rope wound, i'd agree. very doubtful that it's a kick. poor horse, fingers crossed for a good recovery.
