How deep are your wood pellet beds?

In the summer, when the bed can get dry and a bit dusty, I wet the pellets, but now I am adding them dry. I add a bag of platinum plus pellets once a week, my bed is deep and getting deeper, if you drop a fork onto it you will not feel the floor.

Wood pellet bds are about 10" deep on rubber mats. I just skip out the droppings and remove any wet that comes to the surface.

During the summer when they are in during the day and out at night I use approx one 10kg bag bet stable per week which I do water first. During the winter when they are in at night and out during the day I add between 2 to 3 bags were week. I usually put them in I soaked and mix them well in.

I use Five Star Professional pellets.

Bed is fairly deep ( i tend to forget i have rubber mats!) with big banks. I add a bag a week soaked in the wheelbarrow then mixed through well. Might go the odd week every now and again without adding a bale, all evens out and bed stays the same. I use thirsty bed. Love it!

One brick deep :biggrin3: I add a bag a week mostly, except at the min I have 2 stables in 24/7 use so they have 2. This time of year I don't add water. Occasionally in the summer I water the bed as a whole but not the invidual bags.

I use aquamax, as works out cheaper :eek3: as this time as the year I used a bag every other day of cheaper stuff and always had to wet it to get it to break down which this time of year made for a very wet bed!

'Normal' Horse out 7 hours a day has bed 6" deep. I use 3 x 10kg bags of Woodlets a week. I cut a U shape in top of bag and add 1/4 bucket of hot water. Then I have the wettest, muckiest and messiest horse on earth that uses 4 - 5 x 10kg bags a week and still looks as though he has not been mucked out for a week. He only has a very shallow bed and has it taken out daily and replaced with fresh. If you give him a deeper bed he still trashes the whole lot.

I find I have to have the wood pellet beds at least 6" so the wet doesn't get churned in and the top stays nice and clean, I then take the wet out once per week and replace with 2-4 10kg bags per week (depending on how wet they are).

The base is about 6" deep, absolutely solid. The loose on top is about 2" deep. I add two bags a week, dampened and raked across the top.
