I got 2 the yard and saw no sign of fireworks so took my boy in the school once every1 had lunged. All going well and then bang, he turned on a six pence 2 watch them, was scard but he thought it was safer to keep his eye on then than turn his back but had 2 get some1 to help me off as recent i cant risk fall off.
Once in his stable happy eating, all horse very settled.
My dog on the over than is so scard and he ran into a stable with a good pony and buried himself in the straw, he got home and hid under sister bed till this morning.
perfect... we did some jumping gridwork while they were going off & in the cool off watched a few - he likes them!
think im one of the lucky people!
My friend however has a nervy tb - she got the balls to ride, only in walk & he was a bit jumpy but she did it & was very happy that she did (& so was i)
I brought all mine home just in case, which was hard work as I have 5 in a field 3 miles from home and two retired ones half a mile in the other direction, and my lorry wouldn't start so ended up riding and leading in shifts with my daughter and by the time we finished it was dusk - not part of the plan.
And guess what - virtually no fireworks at all round here! I brought them home as the field is new and I wasn't sure if there would be any major fireworks round that way but wish I hadn't bothered now
I am wondering if everyone is saving them for Saturday, or if people have decided they have better things to do with their money than setting fire to it! Terrier was fairly distressed though as he can hear bangs from miles away and he sat under my computer table - at first I thought my computer was about to implode, then realised it was him shaking badly
There didn't seem to be many fireworks around by us last night. Mind you, my horse used to live on Salisbury Plain, so he's not the least fussed about loud bangs.
We're lucky in that we've got plenty fields (YO not me!) so any that do go off are far enough away not to bother the horses, but they were in as that's their routine anyway.
Sounds like the dogs disliked them more than the horses, Jojo4 I hope your doggy is recovered this morning, poor thing!
We also never had the usuall amount but they maybe saving them for the weekend. Last year i found around 6 used rockets that had landed in my field but the horses were their usual selves in the morning. I horses live near an housing estate so think they are used to most things.
i think this topic came up the other day in the forum & someone said something that interested me... & people may want to suggest to any of those considering doing it (i dont by the way)....
(& please dont quote me on this!) if you sedate the horse (ACP) their brain still works at normal speed & will react to the fireworks but their body will not be able to cope with the brains reactions, so they are more likely to hurt themselves becuase their brain is saying 'take flight' but their legs will not want to work properly.
i understand people will choose to do with their horses as they will (excactly the same as i will with mine) but it is something i think they should consider
They were both fine, Mr M watched a lovely display from his stable and when I mucked Py out was munching on his while the bangers were going off, doesnt bother them, they shoot on the land on our livery yard so I think there just used to loud bangs.
Fine, we had a bonfire over the railway and mine was out with just one other. My horse couldn't careless about anything as long as she is in her field!!!
Mine would have been fine apart from some prat in the village, no more than 100 yards from yard who thought it was a good idea to have display fireworks at home and let them off over our yard, letter going to parish council, gggggrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!! Don' normally get a peep out of the horses on my yard but last night had at least 7 of them climbing the walls, quite literally and pacing round and round and were absolutely covered in sweat.
The baby wasn't keen until I took him outside the stables to watch them, then he seemed to think they were quite pretty and settled down. Older one could see them from his stable and seemed to thoroughly enjoy!
SWA shook like a leaf at them, and his turnout rug was soaked in sweat, his bed this morning was quite churned up too.
hubby went down late lasat night to check on him.
Nothing really went off round here last night, I too think they are saving them for either tonight or sat night, my cats ended up watching some out of window....ahhh cute!

I was about to write very similar!!! The fireworks went off just as we were catching in which set them all off but they were fine once they had food!
eoe and aoibhin, hope your horses are ok, sounds like they had bad nights.
poppymoo that sounds like mine, lol!
I forgot we have a military rifle range near ours that they shoot rifles and machine guns on so ours should be used to bangs too, that's probs why we had no problems
My horse loves fireworks i could take him to a display wouldnt bother him he loves watching them it strange because if a car back fire you wouldnt see him for dust
I haven't seen my horse since Wednesday
(bad mummy I know, instructor does him on morning and dad did him last night) but I expect he was having a good nose and enjoying the view!! He is unflappable and finds things like fireworks very pretty. If he had his own way he would have a sparkler in his hoof waving it around!!
Left them last night all tucking into a pile of hay in the field watching the display from down the hill. Think they were more bothered about the driving rain we had last night !
Didn't have many i don't think, last year i remember i was riding and just as i halted to finish, and asked Blue to stand a huge display went off so we watched them
Wernt to many by us last night, next door had a few but he's good and doesnt have many with loud bangs. The two little ones wernt too bad, had a bit of a jump at the louder couple of rockets, but other wise ok. D on the other hand paced round his stable, jumped everytime something made a noise then cowered at the back when the rockets went off. problem is, is that theres quite a big one tonight in the one but next field and last time they had fire works it was one massive rocket after the other. Have spoken to the vet this morning and he's recommended sedaline gel to me, to help calm him down.
I went down to check mine as the display was going off, two of them were laid down asleep in their beds snoring! the others couldn't have cared less, just muching away.
