Some of you may have seen my posts about my 16.2hh WB who got diagnosed with a heart condition- well I don't want to go into it as its been a blinking hard couple of months, but he is now at peace.

So....... heard of a loan pony, has some issues but seemed a nice sort and after a phone call with the owner I was happy to go meet him.

He's lush- we went for a hack and all of the issues he normally has- he kept to himself  so had him shod and brought him home Friday. He had a baptism of fire over the weekend 2x hack out with my daughters one on pony other on bike (swapping half way) he negotiated the farm traffic, a shoot and the level crossing all really well and today we did our 1st solo hack and he was also fab!

His default position is to rest his head on your boobs! But he is starting to soften, stretch and round and we were doing some leg yealding today to help when he meets traffic and he was catching on really well! Came back and had a canter across field this was our 1st canter at home and he has been bucking with owner but so far I'm yet to feel one brewing (he's probably waiting until I least expect it ). Got back and had some bonding time, mane pulling and trial plaits (excuse the state of them I'm rubbish with bands) and a tail wash.

So I'm thrilled and who would have thought the lover of big WB's would be so chuffed with a tiny cob! Going to box him over to friends for a hack Wednesday as although he travels well he does sweat up as not travelled that much, flat work lesson at end of week, and thinking of taking him to a meet (although may not go out on the hunt) next week!!!

Well, it comes to all of us at some point in our horse owning lives. I went out looking for a 16 hh dapple grey mare. Ended up with a 14.3hh black COB! You cant help who you fall in love with and cobs are proper horses. I also own a warmblood, so have feet in both camps and I love her dearly. However, its the cob who has total control of my heart. Long may it continue.

Absolutely lovely horse, enjoy him. Cobs really do rock.

He looks Welsh Cob, not a 'cob' cob....completely different so you're safe, Shils won't kill you in your sleep :p

Hope you have lovely fun with him!

And so sorry to hear about your DW boy :( x

Oh this cob shmob snobbery. A bit like the 'ooh it's not a proper dog' if you own somethng small and fluffy (as I do) rather than a massive hound.
Your new boy looks like a sweetheart and a perfect match for the little one - like father and son. I reckon you guys are going to have a huge amount of fun all out together.

I can't wait- he's never seen a sand school or a coloured pole but I'm planning some lessons so that will be fun. His neck muscle is all at the bottom with a flabby bit at the top so hoping to even that out too.

He's small and sane enough to be fun, but with enough left to work on to keep me interested!

What this space! :D

He's not registered to any breed society- breeding unknown but he looks more like a cob in their varying strains than anything else ;)

Lumping cobs in one category is like lumping TB's as one type only. I make no assumption that a cob is automatically sane and have seen a lot of cobs with really quite stunning movement and jump. The sharpest horse I have ever known was a show cob and I have a very soft spot for a proper working cob...

Just to be clear- I'm have never been anti cob!

As a family we have owned some fabulous one- one being the BEST horse we have ever owned- he was my Mums and I BSJA'd and national level tetrathloned him too he was fab!

But i have alway been naturally attracted to the WB type- just the same as i naturally like a bay, .......or a tall, strong athletic man :o It doesn't mean that i completely discount everything else though- I'm not THAT short sighted!

Hense why I now have 2 ginger welshies!!!
