How Did You Find Out That You Owned Your Horse?

Ffin when he was born, I knew he would be great, kept him, found the mare a home. Fifteen years on his a great horse.

Moses when I made the error of stopping to look at the pretty foals and looked in to his pretty blue eyes. I Had to have him, three years on and we are about to start him. Very excited.

B1 when I begged and borrowed enough to pay for her! B2 when I got a phone call to say i'd better sell a pony coz I was going to need the stable!

Mouse was bought for me but was totally unsuitable (was only 6 months old) so was bought Blackjack by my mother.

I had Jazz on loan and was very kindly given him as a Christmas/birthday present by his then-owner.

Thunder I have on loan but it was supposed to be on a 6 month trial basis. That ended last March. His owner has never been to visit him or has got in contact via FB, e-mail or mobile (they have all of these for me!) so I'm assuming that they are happy with how things are going! 12 months over the agreed time period for a loan - does this make him mine?!

So, in short, I haven't actually bought any of my horses and it's complicated!!

Went to view a wb chesnut colt at a stud - sadly he was sold. But still managed to come home with a wild bay tb 1yr old with me being 37weeks pregnant...so i had a lovely xmas new pony then 2weeks later a baby :D

Used to full loan him off my old yo who I used to work for, as he had to be taken out the riding school due to his "issues"

Loaned him for about 4 years then last year yo was about to move away, I thought I was just going to keep the loan agreement but she gave me an envelope containing a note about livery arrangements and a letter asking me if I wanted to buy H off her (for a v reasonable fee!)

Obv I accepted and gave her a cheque.

He is still v good at being frustrating but we went for a lovely hack today down the fields today alone & he wouldn't hack out alone when I first started loaning him

First one at the auction when I handed over a crisp fiver, then found out I'd bought a job lot of one horse and six ponies.
Second when I handed over a cheque (courtesy of my husband) last one when told by the seller that the bank draft had cleared.

when i saw that little ginger 3 month old face and then handed over a wad of notes! had to wait another 3 months til he came home though! I still have the two receipts saying "payment for bay colt". lol

With my first pony, I found out when we arrived at a closed down riding school and the lady loaded him into the box (I was a very naive child who thought it normal to take a drive to somewhere we'd never been before, horsebox and all).

With the nutty mare, it was when my mother asked me what colour horse I would like, if I could choose. I came out with all the strangest colours I could think of, and once I stopped she said 'what about a black one?'. She then told me my dad had bought a black mare and that we were going to fetch her later in the week, but I had to pretend I didn't know.

With Big Ears, it was when my dad broached the subject of selling her again and I told him I had enough money to meet his asking price. He told me he couldn't take my money, I could just have her (he has since suggested I sell her and keep the proceeds, to which my response has been a big, fat NO).

I called and made the offer sat in my car in a garden centre car park - me and my expert friend had stopped there after viewing the pony to debrief and eat cake.

Then I actually went to the vetting so saw everything signed off by the vet, then had to take the vetting cert to Staples to fax it to NFU so my insurance cover could start the next day.

Finally, sealed the deal when I handed over the obligatory wedge of hard earned cash and got a passport, small furry pony, a bridle and a lucky tenner! :)

We'd had Spud on loan for a couple of years and then one day we took him to a ride and he colicked. The only (touch wood) time he's ever colicked - he'd ripped a hole in the haynet and had eaten too much dry hay in the trailer on the way there and bunged himself up. Once we'd got him stabilsed at the vets we rung his then owners to tell them 'don't panic, but...'. The next day, once they knew he was OK, they rung us back and said that they'd been talking about it, all they had ever wanted for him was for his future to be assured, and, as they had some health problems of their own and weren't going to be in a position to have him back, they wanted us to have him.

So, one of the scariest times we've ever had with him led to him actually becoming ours.

With my latest one, I strongly suspected when I saw his head over the door. I knew once I'd put my head over the door and seen the rest of him :D

Id tried a few horses and never really had a spark with any of them, then YO said shed been to see a mare but it wasnt suitable for the riding school but i should take a look. We drove down and i saw this bedraggled dull coated mare and thought what is this?! Then i saw her jump she was amazing & had lovely paces. I then rode her and felt instantly comfortable, we went on a hack jumped ditches the lot. BUT I knew she was mine when I got back to the yard jumped off and she turned and put her head in my arms, i stood and hugged her for what seemed like eternity(very cheesy) my dad came over and i said i want her so a week later she passed her vetting, we parted with the cash and i brought my lovely mare home complete with £10 luck money and a nice new sheepskin numnah. She's just as cuddly now, well even more so! Plus she was my 21st birthday present so makes it all the more special :)

when my mother told me she had to play golf and i would have to look after the horse.

WHAT HORSE?!!!!

I was in the middle of exams so didnt want to distract me with playing pony.

Quite the shock!

I bought mine myself as older, but my sister got her boy for her birthday, and she didn't know until the horsebox pulled into the yard and he bounced out with a big ribbon around his neck!! So special!

First pony my grandma wrote in my birthday card "I'm going to buy you a pony" without asking my parents :o Happiest day ever for me, bit of a shock for them being non horsey. He was the second one we looked at.

Current horse I fell in love with but he was way over budget... when my OH agreed to pay for him as a 30th birthday present :)

Lovely story OP :D
My mum lent me the cash for my lad as a birthday prezzie to myself but it didn't really sink in for about a month! :o

My first pony was the only one I didn't hand over money for!

My mother and I were having an argument about a mess on the stable yard. We didn't have anything living in the yard so I thought her arguments about the mess were irrelevant. Plus it'd been there for about 2 weeks, so why NOW was there suddenly a massive rush to clear it?

Stormed down the garden in a massive huff with my mother sneaking along behind to make sure I did it when I spotted a tiny nose sticking up over a stable door.

Was about 6 months before the mess in question ever got sorted... PMSL!

When the vet phoned just as we were boarding the plane to go on our jollydays to tell us she had passed. And then my grandparents handed over their money :) Best present ever! Although now she is lame they keep apologising to my parents and offering to pay the vets bills! Ha ha
