as i am unable to ride my mare properly until foal is weaned i really want to do some ground work, including lunging, as i feel we both need to 'bond' still

so i need an instructor, to teach us both to lunge, but i have scoured the net the yellow pages Everywhere, and there seems to be no one!

Im in west yorkshire :)

Umm - how are you planning on lunging your mare with the foal still on her?

Re instructors - try local tack shops, livery yards, riding clubs, Pony Club, riding schools - asking people around who they would recommend - personal recommendation is the best way - then you'll get a feeling of whether they would suit you

My mare and foal arnt exactly interested in eachother unless its feed time so my vet said short 30min sessions in the school are fine
Thanks for your suggestions :)

It would be better to longrein rather than lunge imho- better foundation for ridden work and less stressful on her body post-foaling.

I found mine through BHS - I called her and explained what I wanted and she was brilliant. She went through the basics of lunging (not just wizzing round in circles:D) what im looking for in the horse, long lining backing - all safely. To some it may have been OTT, but as she said to me, i'll teach you how it should be done, then make up your own bad habits:) The only bad habit I have now is I dont lunge with a hat on - but he isnt a rearing 3yo now either:) - twisted lunge lines still annoy me though:D

I found mine from a recommendation - I went to watch him teach a lady a few times and then took the plunge and started having lessons. I will be eternaly grateful to her as he is simply the best instructor ever!!

If you don't know someone who could recommend someone to you, then I would call some local to you and either see how you get on on the phone (if you have similar ideas and feelings about different methods) and perhaps arrange to watch them teach. Don't be afraid to say if you think someones style isn't for you. It is a really important relationship and you need to trust them and feel that you are both coiming form the same direction.

Although the BHS list will give you a good starting point, don't be put off from having someone if they aren't on there if you like their teaching. It isn't the only way of checking if someone is anygood, and some instructors simply don't feel the need to sign up as they have sufficient work through word of mouth.

What area are you in, someone might be able to suggest some people as a starting point?

Thanks sooo much for that website its brilliant :)
I'm in wakefield west yorkshire, in the long term I would like to jump but I really need to go back to basics with her it would be training for me and my mare ideally
