how did you fund your horse purchase?

Mine were both wedding receptions!

I was due to marry someone, then found out he was cheating just before the wedding, so all was cancelled. I used the money I should have been spending on the wedding (my half) to buy my wonderful mare. Much better than he ever was.

About five years later OH and I got engaged. We had about £20k in savings, which is what a lot of people spend on a wedding. Instead we cut out the daytime reception, only having 25 close friends and family for a meal, then had a huge reception at night. We spent about £4k, then built our yard and put a deposit down for a house with the rest and bought my husband's horse. (and two ponies too over the years, which have since been grown out of and sold).

I bought a cheapo pony, daughter brought it on & we sold it for 10 times what we paid for it, which then funded the purchase for the one we have now. I also put in some money from a matured insurance policy.

This one is now hopefully sold & the money from him will pay for the next although we have had to save some extra to put towards another as it needs to buy a new trailer too xx

I was given my WB (still to this day, not sure how I managed to get so lucky there!) and my youngster I bought by saving a bit and using my overdraft!!!:rolleyes:

Kept showing hubby pics of all these horses I liked...then found one that looked the spitting image of his one that he had lost not that long before. I told him it would be the perfect Christmas present and hey presto, cobby had a new home :)

Ponies were only cheap so had that money in the bank

Savings and a bank loan! I sold my beloved Mulberry handbag on eBay to pay for my saddle! My horse has 14 rugs... but all my jodhpurs have holes in them... says it all really about who comes first! :)

Worked my ass off and took a 2nd job in the evening to pay for my first horse and my lovely Robin also put about half towards as he knew how badley i wanted her. Sadly she then didn't grow big enough for me but as she was a cheapish rescue project i turned her into a nice riding horse and bought my new baby with the profit i made selling my first horse along with a bit more of my hard earned cash.

I had a horse on loan before I got mine so had not really managed to save a lot but used what I had as a deposit, borrowed a tiny bit and saved the rest as I had three months until I could bring him home :)

Dad bought me my 19 yr old KWPN when he was 3 yrs old for the pricely sum of £4k, we had made a bit of money on the previous pony and sold her for £3.5k, this was when i was 14 yrs old

Then the now 6 yr old was bought by my mum for me as a 2 yr old for £4k, as she felt like when the older horse was going to retire from work that i wouldnt have the drive to carry on riding etc. Have to say it did the trick and really got me back into the horses in a big way! The arrangement was that i would pay her back monthly and he is now all mine :)

I'm a single parent, so benefits office pays, provided I keep the receipt.
Really, parents bought me mine when she was 2 & I was 10. Others I bought. All well under 1k & projects/problems. One ready made one I bought I paid for with earnings.

I got mine LWVTB so intended to save up the money while I had him on loan (he was a bargain anyway) but then I received a little inheritance and a tax rebate so decided it was fate and snapped him up straight away, absolute best investment I have ever made!!

My boss at the time bought me a horse to bring on and sell so i used the profits from that and some of my savings to buy my current one :)

Tax rebate :D But he was only cheapo anyway.
I could see myself dipping into wedding savings quite easily when I'm older, seems like a good idea really!

An insurance policy matured so I bought my first horse with it, plus tack, trailer etc. For Mini TX's rather expensive horse it was a combination of the proceeds of the sale of her old pony and some savings. Would never take out a loan to buy a horse.

Went to my husbands bank and payed for my first horse he wasnt happy i forgot to tell him until a month later when the statment came in. Others given to me as projects
