how did you fund your horse purchase?

I gave up smoking and saved the money for 2 1/2 years. Unfortunately, within the first six months of having him, I started smoking again!! I was very proud of myself.

I'm a single parent, so benefits office pays, provided I keep the receipt.

:D:D:D nice one LL ,:D:D:D

first horse OH bought for me, i don't know where the money came from:eek:
the 2 i have now were gifted to me after i lost the first one, daughters first pony hubs bought, probably with proceeds from mugging old ladies or something, 2nd pony was bought as weanling with the money i had from the sale of our house before OH went bankrupt, 3rd pony i borrowed the money from my mum.

Yeah, yeah, yeah ibblebibble. I know where the money came from, MY taxes. Including the one your mum bought & the free ones. And the sale of your house, my hard earned taxes paid for that too.
Ps don't bother to ask how I came to that conclusion, I will just respond by reiterating my first response about my taxes.

My dad got my first pony when I was little. Each horse after was sold for a little more each time till I got a good comp pony. Then my dad decided to buy me another pony to compete. Same again sold them for a little more each time and same into horses :)

I am the world's most financially irresponsible person, if I were a country I'd be Greece, hands down. My OH would be Germany :) First horse funded through redundancy pay (after got a new secure job with similar salary obviously) second horse, am ashamed to say, I funded through a second mortgage on my house which was meant to be for redecorating the house, I just did a cheaper job and bough the horse. Very silly move, but I don't really care about my house as long as its reasonably clean and functional, the horse has bought me and my daughter a lot of joy though so it was money well spent.

Puss that is a brilliant idea, why didn't I think of that? I'm going shopping...

BTW if I buy hubby a horse as a Christmas present with funds from his account (cos I am a housewife so he pays everything) then he can't get cross can he? that would be very ungrateful if I was just trying to be kind ;)

When I got my first job I borrowed cash £900 from my grampa. Best money I've ever spent!! Was my horse of a lifetime, lost her 2010. Unfortunately she wasn't insured but my mum and dad halfed for my new girl (not £900 quid!! Lol)

Honestly......

My Grandad, while very sick in hospital, said that he would give me the money to pay for my Masters course at Cambridge that I had a place for, my employer would pay the other half.

BUT - due to budget cuts my employer was only able to fund a less expensive course at the local Uni and I didn't want what they had to offer.

Sooooooo, I may have spent the money on the horse BUT I made a promise to him that I would do my Masters at Cambridge when the funding returned and I am likely to begin in Sept 2013 :)

I'm a very lucky girl as both of mine were presents. My first was a 13th birthday present from my grandma (my poor parents - she wrote'I'm going to buy you a pony' in my birthday card without telling them :o ) and my current horse was a 30th birthday present from my lovely OH. I have a very kind family :)

The bank of mum and dad :D ...although the agreement was I paid it back in monthly instalments which I cleared in a year. I then sold first horse and bought 2nd with that money (plus some extra from work earnings) then sadly my 2nd horse was PTS earlier this year, and from this saturday I will be the proud new full loaner (2nd mum) of a beautiful andalucian :D

Redundancy money -my money came through on 1 April and Gus was bought and paid for by 7 April!! I had already got another job, so had to ask my new boss for the Friday afternoon off in my first week to go and collect him - luckily new boss said yes!!

Taz was bought with money we got when we sold half of our back garden (we also bought a horse box, 4x4, new kitchen, new car and a new bathroom :o)

Missy we paid monthly to her owner (she was only £350)

Rio was bought out of my savings and then a little bit of help from mum and my nan for the travel :)

Had some money in a stocks and shares isa called my pony fund, plus a bit more, and my incredibly generous father then sent me two thirds of the new horse's value, which paid for tack and set up costs. Very, very lucky girl :)
